"But today it emerged that the offer only applied to military bases - which could let Saddam hide chemical and biological arms stockpiles elsewhere."Of course this will not be on the alphabet news channels nor in any newspaper for a week or so probably. Why the President hasn't reacted a full 24 hours later is beyond me.He needs to Publicly step up with a speech, again.

Bush had more than just ONE DEMAND.Correct. And weapons inspectors wasn't one of them.
Listening to former inspector Scott Ritter blather on last week destroys whatever confidence I had in weapons inspectors.

The letter is likely a lie told to BY the UN.

I don't think we are going to get any more speeches.
Just a few brief, terse statements... and a steady drip, drip, drip... FLOOD of data from numerous sources national and transnational to support the NEED to act...
and whether we get a congressional resolution or not... we will act... any resolution by congress, will likely be predicated on a UN SEC Council resolution that will not go near to addressing the eight or more demands that BUSH made in his speech already... NONE of which said "we want inspectors/hostages/human shields reinstalled in Iraq to prevent our "intervention..."
The dems are taking political heat on this as being soft on terrorists, now that they are known to have a violent arab/terrorist political base to pacify... six of six terrorists arrested ARE REGISTERED DEMS.
They will vote a resolution, just to try and get this interesting factoid off the front burner.

The Evening Standard is the source that Rush quoted. Whehter he read it there, or here is of little import. The fact is that very few would have heard the story if it just appeared in the Brit paper, and hadn't been reported by Rush (In two separate segments, just so that more people would hear it). You sure as heck would not (and did not) read about it or hear about it, in the mainstream press sources, or media such as NYT, CNNAOLTIMEWARNER, CBS, ABC, (MS)NBC, etc.
Once more talk radio and the internet pull a flanking manuever around the lamestream media.

No inspections are needed until after the war.

The assertion is unsourced, too. The condition is certainly not contained in the letter negotiated with Kofi. Hardly. From the story on the Brit site:
The disclosure that restrictions were, after all, attached to Saddam's offer was made by the London ambassador of the Arab League which brokered the deal in the first place.
Ali Muhsen Hamid claimed Iraq was being sincere, but he stipulated that civilian sites would not be available to the inspectors. "We support anywhere, any military site (for inspections), but not as some people have suggested for inspections against hospitals, against schools."
Which is nice, since hospitals, schools and especially palaces are the places that SH has been reported to be conducting his NBC work in all along, and more since Gulf War I.

Anyway, when the WMD go off on the American mainland Koffi and the UN will not be held to any responsibility Maybe not by our government...but I would stay out of rifle range of the people of the US if I were them, should such and event come to pass. Make that .50 BMG rifle range. :)

"Anyway, when the WMD go off on the American mainland Koffi and the UN will not be held to any responsibility." To be TERRIBLY politically incorrect, but I hope that if any WMD is unleashed on American soil, that the United Nations complex will be right in the middle of "Ground Zero". It would almost be worth the loss of part of NYC just to get rid of it.

Im pretty sure the Bush Administration had prepared for this. Saddam's stall tactics are well known. The French handringers and the Kofi Anans can call it "Peace for our time..." Part Deaux, but in the end, I believe in Bush's resolve. The clock is ticking.....

The President will do whatever he thinks necessary to protect our national security. Of that I have no doubt.
To: newsperson999
no news on this anywhere but on FR...Lot's of other places.
Thanks.

Hey, that's one of Hitlery's better recent photos!

I agree. Im sure Im inviting a flame or two, but I believe in this President. For those who thought he was a dumb hick, it seems that illusion was shattered by little tommys speech to reporters on Capitol Hill this afternoon.Convincing a known enemy(Little tommy and his dems) of his administration to tow the Bush line speaks volumes. George Bush has done more for America domestically and In Foreign matters than Bill Clinton could ever have done.

"Rush says his show is show prep for journalists. I like Rush, but FR is show prep for him. "
It's been that way for years-the best site for breaking news and discussion on the net, is here on FR- Sean sources it,but Rush never does.
To: Wild Irish Rogue
Once about a year ago there was a DC chapter Freep of Xlinton speaking on Mass ave or somewhere in downtown and Rush mentioned them.
To: cardinal4
I have been pretty steamed at Rush, the last few months and participated in a few FR bashes of him-but, it appears that he is back to doing a terrific job of exposing the Dems and all their hypocrisy.
Well, Jim Robinson does not charge for full access.Yet.
I hope he never does. But it would still be worth it.

Rush also stated that half the military bases have been reclassified over the years as presidential palaces, putting them off limits. (Pardon my language but.....) "Presidential palaces", my a$$!!!!!!!!!!!!
