A newspaper report published through the NY Times News Service says the Christian American Family Radio has knocked two Lake Charles, LA NPR affiliate radio stations off the air under a federal law that allows non-commercial with full power licenses to push out those with weaker signals.
TOPICS: Culture/Society; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: christian; npr; ousts; radio
Apparently the local NPR bozos knew this threat was coming but didn't bother to take any action so they lost both their "translator" stations and now have no outlet in the Lake Charles area.
The story is available at the NY Times News Service site NYT but I refuse to fill out their lengthy form for the "privilege" of forwarding their copy.

This should take place around the COUNTRY!
Bully for those in Lake Charles.

Louisiana will be a much better place without the constant bitterness that NPR dishes out.

I'm glad to see a Christian Radio station with high power.
This is the only area I've heard where Christian Radio has more transmission power (db) than NPR though. I suspect throughout the nation about 10 times as many NPR stations overpower gospel radio stations.

According to the article, there is a growing movement nation-wide to dump some of these "translator" stations of NPR which cost them little or nothing and yet push their signal well beyond the normal fm transmitter range.
I believe effots are going on in Oregon and Indiana.
NPR is fighting back by using the "Public Radio Capital" fund to raise money through TAX EXEMPT BONDS to buy full power stations.
The PRC fund (sounds ominously familiar) got its seed money from (GUESS WHERE?) The Corp. for Public Bdcsting!

You know, I don't think very many people listen to NPR anyway.
