Many posters, even many on this site, have vehmently expressed the view that Christianity held back the advancement of human progress, and is a scource of injustice, rather than the cure for it.
This article rather definitively refutes those views. Those who attack Christianity claiming it to be anti-intellectual or unkind are deluding themselves -- much as how Christ predicted they would.

People who attack Christianity because some evil people in history have done some evil things in its name are intellectually deprived. Christianity seeks to convert people to total goodness - to follow the example of Christ. Should enough such conversions occur, society would become greatly better than it was in the past or than it is today. The basic question to be asked is: If everyone behaved as did Christ, would society be far better or far worse. Any honest person knows the answer to that question.

Hitler, an occultist and a supporter of a neo-pagan religion based on the idea of a sacred German nation of conquering heroes made great pains to drain Christianity from German culture and took numerous steps like requiring the use of the word "Yuletide" in place of "Christmas" and prohibiting any public displays of Christian ceremonial activities. Sound familiar?

"if it were to become illegal to be a christian would there be enough evidence to convict you?"

Thank you for this post. High time we see the faith defended properly and factually here. Bump, and God bless.

Air Force Academy grads make up 20 percent-plus of responses. Sounds like a pretty good school. :-)

Many posters, even many on this site, have vehmently expressed the view that Christianity held back the advancement of human progress, The charge that Christianity has held back scientific progress is utterly ridiculous. Perhaps the best example of pagan materialistm is atomism. The fortuitous and mindless joining of atoms holds absolutely no prospects for scientific inquiry and neither does the fortuitous and mindless mutations held by present day materialists. Only theories which deny mindlessness and propose order can be the source of scientific inquiry. It is this belief in order, in natural laws which as stated in our Declaration come from God that has proven to be the source of the scientific spirit and scientific progress in the Christian West.

Western Science began as an effort to discern, understand and quantify God's design. I would further say that we have learned much from this effort.

Western (social)Science began as an effort to discern, understand and quantify God's design(laws/Truth). I would further say that we(some haven't) have learned much(anything) from this effort.

The book seems tendentious and one sided. The role of Christianity in the world is a mixed bag, as are most such powerful and wide ranging institutions. The rise of science involved a certain degree of secularization. I also suspect the book over emphasizes the importance of Christianity on world events. But that is just a guess.

That is the first statement I have seen on this thread that made any sense at all, but when you have FChristian and The man in blue on the same thread, that's not too surprising.

OK, why do you think the role of Christianity is a "mixed bag?"

The Crusades, internecine war, anti-Semitism, the sale of indulgences, the Inquisition and the auto de fe, the banning of the charging of interest, the sale of indulgences, the intermittent hostility to the scientific method, the attempted carving up of the new world between Portugal and Spain, are a few items arguably on the debit side. I am sure you can list the plus side, and there is a plus side.

The Crusades, internecine war, anti-Semitism, the sale of indulgences, the Inquisition and the auto de fe, . . . the sale of indulgences, . . . the attempted carving up of the new world between Portugal and Spain, Now, why do you think those things were wrong?
the banning of the charging of interest
Horrors!!!
the intermittent hostility to the scientific method,
Christianity is responsible for the scientific method, as the article above points out.
