Israel's End-Times Gamble
World Net Daily ^ | Sept. 14, 2002 | Gary DeMar

Posted on 09/14/2002 4:13:03 AM PDT by Seti 1

"If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right. You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, Know when to walk away and know when to run."

Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" has sold millions of copies since its 1978 release and spawned five made-for-TV movies. But the song's appeal is in its no-nonsense philosophy. When there is no way to win, it's time to walk away from the game.

The game is over for Israel. Let me explain.

In Tim LaHaye's pretribulational rapture novel, "The Remnant," the Jews are in for a hellacious future. Two-thirds of the Jews living in Israel will be slaughtered. LaHaye is not alone in holding this noxious position. John Hagee, a popular prophecy writer, states in a recent WorldNetDaily column:

Jerusalem today is a detonating device with no fail-safe system. It's a loaded pistol at an international poker dispute with all players demanding control. It's a driverless coach careening toward a blind curve – the collision of which will birth World War III. You see, there's nothing anyone can do about WWIII. According to Hagee, it's a prophetic inevitability. It's this fatalistic futuristic perspective that has kept the heads of Jews on the chopping block for 2,000 years since there's still one more holocaust that Jews will have to go through.

Even so, evangelicals are spending millions of dollars to help Jews return to Israel. In so doing, says the Rev. James M. Hutchens, president of Israel/USA, "we believe we are fulfilling a divine calling ... to assist the Jewish people in their physical return and restoration of the land of Israel." Like Hagee and LaHaye, Hutchens maintains that "There will be no peace until the Messiah comes."

The views of these men are alarming to some Jewish leaders, as they should be. Rabbi David Saperstein, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, asks, "To what extent will a theological view that calls for Armageddon in the Middle East lead [evangelicals] to support policies that may move in that direction, rather than toward stability and peaceful coexistence?"

The most probable scenario is that prophetic futurists will sit back and do nothing as they see Israel go up in smoke. What can they do? The Bible predicts it. "There will be no peace until the Messiah comes."

Given this inevitable scenario, what should Jews do? Leave Israel. Under the New Covenant, your land is meaningless. It has no more theological importance than Rhode Island. Under LaHaye, Hagee, and Hutchen's prophetic model, odds are you'll be dead if you stay. If not you, then certainly someone in your family will die. But if you leave, the Muslims won't have a common enemy to unify them. Let them destroy one another. Remember, Iran's war with Iraq and Iraq's invasion of Kuwait? There is no unity among these Muslim nations with Israel gone.

Then what? Come to America! Maybe we can convince Congress and the President to carve out a parcel of land in one of our National Monuments for you to settle. America is the safest place on earth for you. Once the Muslims kill themselves off, if you still think your barren strip of land is important, then you can go back.

Take a lesson from Kenny. If you're gonna play the game, ya gotta learn to play it right. You got to know when to hold on to the land and when to run. It's time to run.

BTW the Bible also says:

"For rebellion is as the sin of divination, And insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry." 1 Samuel 15:23

I don't suppose any of us would fall into that category...

I don't think you can fairly equate the Left Behind series (which Lahaye says himself are to be read as FICTION) with tea leaf reading.

I would imagine his motivation was to increase people's interest in what the Bible has to say about what is going on in the world.

That being said, none of these kinds of books hold my attention. I started reading the first one of the Lahaye/Jenkins series, and just couldn't get into it. But I do enjoy the occasional Christian fiction story.

Whatever. I have no problem with people speculating on how things might turn out. As long as no one says for sure that they know ahead of time.

Now, if you wanna pick on Hagee, I'm up for that! He sounds much more unequivocal in his view, at least as he is quoted in the article. Sounds like he's taking Lahaye's speculation much too seriously.

Honestly I don't recall it very well. I don't have an issue with speculative fiction based on Scripture, which is how I read it; I just didn't get into the book.

However, accusing LaHaye & Co. of divination seems over-harsh to me. I'd expect he wants to leave his readers with a sense of what might be; an extrapolation of Revelation that might be used as an evangelistic tool.

There may be those who read the series as prophecy on par with Revelation, but that's their problem, not LaHaye's.

I agree with you that America the Babylon is falling and is Mystery Babylon of Rev 17-18 and Jer 50 and 51.

I couldn't disagree more strongly. Re-read the passages in question, use a Strong's to help if necessary. This is a description of the one-world political and religious system that will rule in the short season under the leadership of the AC. How America gets substituted in here is a complete mystery to me, since it isn't there.

What is troubling about this teaching is that it leads people away from God's truth and into the hands of AC, who will probably be saying the very same thing once he sets foot here after being booted out of heaven.

Good work. I know where you're going and you're pretty much headed down the right path. It is important to identify the enemy beforehand, so one is not deceived. Satan is unfortunately more intelligent than any human who has ever lived, and has infiltrated every facet of our civilization, especially religion.

However, God warned us of that long ago, didn't he? The famine of the endtimes is not the famine of bread or famine of thirst, but of hearing the words of the LORD. Amos 8:11

"The Eagle of Vengeance" ~ A Dream on September 7th 2002 [Rosh Hashanah] ~ by Brian Grewal

I have had a strange sense of impending danger throughout the day. My spirit was provoked within in me as images of an eagle about to pounce on its prey flashed before my eyes. The feeling was so real I looked up on several occasions to see if there was an eagle in the sky. Last night I had a dream, the details are as follows.

I was standing on the outskirts of a city I'm not familiar with. In the sky above me there hovered a large eagle, it was as though I could feel the eagle's anticipation of what was about to happen. Suddenly, the eagle swooped down at great speed towards a small animal in the grass that appeared to be a rabbit.

The scene in a natural way was quite normal, but I found myself weeping for the situation. I cried out to the eagle to have mercy, but it was in vain. The rabbit began to swerve this way and that trying to evade the inevitable while the eagle continued to descend.

My eyes looked to where the animal was running and it was heading for a large group of rocks. To my astonishment the eagle didn't appear to change its course or speed. At that moment, I actually felt that it was the eagle who was in danger and not just the rabbit. The eagle reached forth with its talons and tore open the back of the animal, just as the rabbit escaped under the rocks.

The eagle was so focused on its prey, that its feet smashed against the top of the rocks as it altered its course. It then flew back to an even greater height, seemingly unmoved by its injuries. Although I was on the ground, I could see that both its feet were broken.

I looked into the eyes of the eagle, I could see the mixture of rage and humiliation. The eagle waited for the animal to emerge, there was a stirring in the grass and the eagle swooped again. This time it would have to rely on its strength to bring it down and the power of its sharp beak to kill.

The eagle was close to capturing the animal when it became clear that it was no longer a rabbit, but had in fact become a lion. I looked towards the eagle assuming it would back off, but it did not. The lion was bleeding profusely and as the eagle came within range, it turned and with one swipe of its paw, brought the eagle down.

My heart was pounding at the sight that lay before me. The lion ran towards the eagle which was stunned and unable to escape. The lion then proceeded to tear off the right wing of the eagle but did not kill it. The lion returned to the shelter of the rocks and left the eagle on the ground, bleeding from the encounter.

"My bridge partner is a Reform Jew, and considerably to the right of moi, and way, way more religious. I dissent."

Your bridge partner must be a Reform Reform Jew.

Whadat? A conservative Reform type? Actually, this site to the contrary notwithstanding, it is not totally ideosyncratic. Indeed, less religious Jews tend to be slightly more conservative than more religious per polls that I have seen. I know, no one will believe me. Whatever.

"We're all gonna be bailed out and only the bad guys are going to be nailed. "

That is not what Tim Lahayes books claim. A look at the last title should give you a clue. He claims the church is removed but there are plenty of new believers the day after this happens. I have read where some think that more souls will be saved in this time period than in all the years leading up to it.
We should be nice to our atheist friends in here. They could become the greatest evangelists of all time...;)

"Indeed, less religious Jews tend to be slightly more conservative than more religious per polls that I have seen. I know, no one will believe me. "

Being a non-Jew, (or a messianic Gentile) myself, I can only say that I have found such a wide variety of religious-political conservative-liberal combinations among the Jews that I have met, that I make no judgments at all until I know them a little bit better. Mostly because I'm in sales and I don't want to say anything stupid. ; )

But Reform Judaism as a philosophy is pretty pointless: Why go through the motions for a G-d that might not even be there?

But DeMar is way off on this article. He usually makes more sense.

I am way out of my depth too, but you might be confusing Reform Jews for Unitarians. I know a bit more about Unitarians. My grandmother, and mother, sort of subscribed to that. My dad was an atheist.

Had a friend whose dad was a Unitarian minister. He became a satanist singer for a punk band. But a nice guy, and a pretty good friend at the time.

I don't think that his dad ever disapproved. All expressions of faith are acceptable, and so on.

Boy, Christians do see through a glass dimly. The key is to ask the Holy Spirit for the truth when we study the Bible. We should try to leave out our pride and preconceived notions when we read the Bible. Even so, there are a lot of Christians here with different opinions, we should all get together in heaven to discuss, then we will all see clearly.

Therefore pre-millenialism can not be true. The kingdom of God is already here, regardless of what goes on in the middle east.

A voice of reason.

Thank you...
