Back in the days when I started my word processing business, I had a lot of graduate students from Golden Gate University in S.F. for clients, mostly in the International Relations Dept. This is purely anecdotal. A couple of students were from Africa, and nicer people you couldn't find. One man and his sister were both clients, hard-working, honest, and became naturalized citizens. I think of them fondly, and would be happy to have them as clients again.

I remember a couple of young men, late 20s, were from Jordan, and I couldn't wait to finish their thesis. One in particular was extremely demanding, fairly disrespectful, except when my husband was around, and whiny to boot. Another word processor had finished his thesis because I was away from Christmas, and because she couldn't complete it, he and his wife wanted to sue ME! I spoke with his wife on Christmas Eve (sheesh), trying to calm her down because her husband had ended up in the ER with stress symptoms, because of this thesis.

She told me (I swear) that somebody had to pay for this! I told her that was a problem with this country - that people sometimes believed that someone else is at fault for our problems. Sometimes no one (but ourselves) is to blame. She didn't like that, but she didn't sue me.

I realize this is anecdotal, personal evidence, but I also believe that there is a societal characteristic at work here. He was extremely arrogant, and I saw these same traits in play during the three med students' interviews.

More like MOST of the time no one but ourselves are to blame.
