Channel 2 news:
Santaquin and Spring Lake affected. Apparently heavy rains have caused mud slides in an area that was burned this summer. More later.

..snip..
Following serious flooding in 1949, the Summit Creek Canal and Irrigation Company was given approval to construct a reservoir west of the city; on several occasions it has prevented disastrous damage to the community. A diversion dam was completed and more than 10,000 feet of concrete pipe laid in 1971, which proved to be an efficient method of conserving valuable water resources. Irrigation methods changed to sprinkling systems or drip systems, enabling farmers to efficiently irrigate land that was not level, bringing more farmland into production. Natural gas service was brought to Santaquin in 1954, and marked a major development in the modernization of the community.

Colorado having serious flooding and mud slides in the burn areas too. THANK YOU ENVIRO-NAZIS!
To: OldFriend
The 2 towns are being evacuated.
A "huge" wall of mud and water came down from the mountain.
500 lb Boulders washing down. Watching video now. Houses have mud 3-4' up their wall.
Cars pushed down the road. No warning. Residents did not have warning, came too fast.
2 kids were trail riding, and witnessed it all.
No word of injuries. Sorry, transcribing as the news comes on.

Thanks for the ping. I just got home. I saw the news report on KSL. Just a huge wall of mud, some homes have 3-4 feet of mud in them. Everyone is safe though, about 200 people will be spending the night at the LDS meetinghouse nearby.

That is good news!
To: Lokibob
I drive by that subdivision almost every week...and you could see the hillside that is behind the houses was bare of vegetation.
I'll be driving down that way tommorrow...and will check it out.

Yes, it is really good news that no one was hurt or killed. We are in the middle of a drought in Utah, but didn't think all the rain we need would come in one week....
