Without going too deeply into the calculations, yes, the odss against something on the level of what happened in the last few days is quite high. There are valid objections to calling it too heavy a coincedence, but even those things taken into account, I'd very roughly estimate that what happened was roughly on a 50,000-500,000 to 1 against scale.
Any philosophers out there who think this is an illustration of "collective manifestation" or some such thing?
Here's a web site that has been investigating that very question for some time. Rough summary is that they perform a large number of what amount to virtual coin flips from hundreds of nodes throughout the world. These are events which really should not at all be related to real-world activities, but that's exactly what they compare them to.
The result? Well, the web site is very good about not drawing conclusions and leaving that instead to the reader, but just look at their data from last September 11th. If you thought the above was freaky...
