It just struck me while I was watching him in Pennsylvania and in New York that the families felt so at ease with him; they would just reach over and touch him, rub his arm, hug him, even kiss him. It was SO personal. I wanted so badly to HEAR what they were saying, but it just seemed so private that I could understand why there were no microphones.
Almost to a person, they were "close" with him.
