I believe the picture was intended to represent a future battle, since not much in the picture is represenative of any past battle. Any battle portrayed would glorify a Muslim victory and there are no Muslim victories on the battlefield consistent with the Bradleys, helicopters, and the other objects in the sky. Some say they are parachutes, some say they are balloons.
It is interesting to note that weapons inspectors in Iraq identified helicopters with aerial dispensers as Iraq's most advanced form of a distribution system for biological weapons.
Additionally, plans for using balloons to dispense biological weapons were discovered in Al-Qaeda hands in Afghanistan.
For those that identify the objects as parachutes, I know of no past Muslim victory where Muslim parachutists played an important role.

It is a common saying in Arabic. But the resemblance of the illustration to that event in October 1999 cannot be coincidental, especially since October is the first month on this page of the calendar.

That's very interesting. The only way it could be the Gulf war, I think, is if it commemorates the time when we turned back. After that, Saddam spun the thing as a victory for himself.

" would add, though, to support my theory, that September is not one of the months on this page of the calendar."
I can't read that scribble, but it does look like that middle month is September. The days are M T W T F S S read from the top right down the columns. If you tilt your head to the right and put Sunday in the last (bottom) column, it works for September 2001, and it also works for August (on the right), and October (on the left).
I'm just guessing though.

The months, from right to left, are october, november, december. It's hard to read, but I think Saturday (Sabat) is the first day, Friday (Juma'a, their sabbath) is the last day of the week.

I won't discount or entirely reject your interpretation of the picture, as you have made some valid points. My opinion however, is that this would represent 9/11. While the plane is over water, Manhattan IS an island and thus, surrounded by water. A depiction of the 9/11 that includes being over water would not be inconsistant.
While some details do not perfectly match the events at the WTC, there are several reasons which I believe that could still allow this to be a pre 9/11 depiction of the attack:
Recent al Jazera(sp) interviews of al Qaeda operatives indicate that the 9/11 targets did in fact change at least once. Also, the precise targets may not have been known to the artist when the calendar was being assembled. If he did know that the WTC was the target and airliners would be used as weapons, the artists desired "interpretation" could still be as the picture was drawn, since the statue of liberty leaves no doubt as to where it will happen, the plane coming from the clouds, "guided" by the light of Allah. The plane being in flames could be artistic license to depict the plane as being a weapon. It could also represent one of the planes AFTER the attack, which has crashed through one side of a tower and out the other, then crashing into the ocean. Artists offen embellish on some details of a drawing to add to the underlying depiction of an event.
Now if the other drawings could more closely be linked with glorifying past acts of "martyrs" whos actions they wanted to celebrate, that would be a plus for your theory, but I haven't really seen anything in the other picture to support that
....just my opinion.

Egypt's flag
Sorry for the misleading information on the flag. I think it is clear the flag in the calendar picture is the Egyptian flag.

Sorry, I meant that on the Iraq war calendar, the months are April, May, June.

Aha! This probably has something to do with Sinai, then.

Is there any way to get the other pages of this calendar online?

On Nov. 12th, President Bush spoke at the UN. I wonder when that speech was scheduled, and how long the date had been public knowledge.

"What are you looking at?" asked the schoolteacher as she approached one of her freshman students. The boy, a young Palestinian, seemed captivated as he stared out the window across Brooklyn toward the lower downtown area of Manhattan.
The boy was Pakistani.
It's too bad that in (correctly) debunking the charge of Urban Legend on at least this part of the story, the author made a heavy-duty factual error in his second sentence.

I know of at least two people who had these kinds of experience. One was Neighbor "A" who told Neighbor "B" on 9/10 that confidentially, he shouldn't go to work that next day - after the attacks "B" called the FBI, and "A" was picked up by the Feds.
The other was a doctor in the group my family was going to at the time, who upon hearing of the attacks was heard by his office mates to say "Finally!" or something to that effect. A few days later he was led out of the office in handcuffs, his PC confiscated.
Not Urban Legend.

This may explain why Flight 587 crashed on Veteran's Day 2001. It may also suggest who is responsible.National Day of Silence for the Children of Iraq:
Veterans Day Weekend, November 11, 2000
Purpose and Plan of Action
As 10 years come to a close since the implementation of the United Nations economic sanctions against Iraq, over 1,000,000 civilians (over 500,000 of them children) have been killed. These economic sanctions not only prevent the Iraqi people from receiving proper nourishment and medical treatment, but they prevent the growth of an infrastructure that can be utilized by the civilians to pull themselves out of their current state.
The United States has played the lead role in maintaining the economic sanctions, despite protests from many Americans, human rights activists, and nations across the globe. The rationale behind this continued policy is to keep a check on the Iraqi governments insistence on developing nuclear weaponry. Whatever the justification for the economic sanctions, it must be noted that the ten year-long economic starvation of a people has not achieved any of the stated ends. Misrepresentation of these facts has led many elected officials to feel pressured to support economic sanctions, despite the devastatingly inhumane effects they have on an entire nation.
The following plan has been designed to please God by taking action against injustice, educate the American public about the unjust effects of the sanctions, and educate elected officials to support a lifting of the sanctions.
The National Day of Silence for the Children of Iraq serves as a vehicle to bring the plight of the Iraqi people to the forefront of the American conscience. One designated hour of the Day of Silence, 12-1 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time) will be held as a nationally recognized period of silence and prayer in memory of all those who have died and those who continue to suffer under the sanctions. Regional coordinators will organize a communal prayer/silent demonstration in their respective locations.
The Day of Silence is designed as a springboard and focal point for the organized movement to help the people of Iraq. The campaign strategy includes media networking, community outreach, and political campaigning.
