I saw Bush's countenance when he stated that the "Saudis are close allies". He doesn't say that about the French or Germans or Egyptians or Japanese. He meant it. They are. Appearances are deceiving especially with that despotic crew.
Agreed. There is so much more going on than we can grasp, but it's clear that the Saudis cannot openly support us, and that they can do more to help us in the region than any other country.
Your observation on Bush's 'countenance' is most interesting, and something I had not thought about. I have wondered why he said that they are our allies, when they do not seem to be our allies, but your point that he really does mean it because it is true because of what is going on behind the scenes, makes sense.
btw, the only point you've made on this thread with which I disagree is that Hannity listens. He's much too busy pontificating to pay attention to his 'guests' IMO. But I sure agree with you on Brit. He's a journalist, a professional, and one of a kind. I just hope some younger journalists are paying attention and learning from him, so that he's not the last true journalist.
His work on the TV show is superb. He has to package a commentary masquerading as an interview because that's how bang-bang, 20 seconds till commercial TV works. Compare his mastery of the situation to the token GOP voice on CNN Bob Novak ... Bob's a day late and a dollar short these days. He's making his point, and we're watching a Bowflex commercial
That may well be, but sometimes the masquerade is a bit too obvious. I haven't heard his radio show, and have only heard him on radio as a sub for Rush. I've seen the same brash ideologue on occasion there, and even though I agree with most of his views, it's an irritant. He's not offensive to me all (or even most) of the time, but it's often enough to keep me from being a regular viewer of his show.

I could always tell when W wasn't behind a policy or program. See: Campaign Finance Reform. He couldn't be bothered, and I agree with him. He was setting up his domestic security agency, he was dealing with anthrax ... and he figured that since he raised over $150 million in hard money from over 40,000 individual GOP donors, a ban on soft money would not be a strategic defeat for his party.
He wasn't thrilled about the Farm Bill either. That was a calculated move to give tribute to the right of Senators to be soulless, shameless pigs. (Pigs got some big cash, too bad the pigs, not Harkin, are fated for that short walk and long ride to the truck of eternity. I also have a problem with slaughtering pigs, that's for another day. They're smarter and more aware than the average Golden Retriever) Bush wrote it off, there was no passion or joy, that was ugly bidness.
But, the Education Bill ... he was stoked. His outreach to Hispanics and his assurances to Muslim and Arab Americans ... that is a soul deep goal. His acknowledgement of the Kennedy's was sincere and a tribute to occupying their weird, weird place in our history and culture. He's not an operator like Clinton and Gingrich.
So, when he furrows that brow and focuses those eyes and says ... "Regime change is this nation's policy" or when asked what the goal of his War and Terror was ... he said "Victory." Yeah, that's having the mental toughness of Tiger Woods, AND the game of Tiger Woods. That's the mojo I saw when he talked about the Saudis, it was like "Back off, stop the smear campaign". Because, there was a concerted anti-Saudi thing going on. Bush sent a signal loud and clear. He's in a surly mood right now.

The way to win is to kill those who've killed you and make sure they don't do it again. Our war is with Islamic Fundamentalists. Iraq is not such a country.
Before some fool tells me that what I wrote is somehow support for Saddam, get a grip.
The problem in the Mid East is due to the fact of corrupt dictators running the show in every single country there. This in turn causes all of the people there to hate. The fact that their hate is directed at us and Israel is testament to just how stupid these people really are.
I guess you didn't hear about the WTC and Pentagon attacks. You can argue that Iraq presents more of a problem to us in the future even though I disagree but you can't argue who has killed thousands of Americans so far.

Iraq is a menace. They are working on bad medicine. That ugliness will find its way here if we don't snuff it out. It's mass murder fodder, available to any bidders.

It's that simple. Iraq is an icon, they've spit in the face of the U.N. and the U.S. for the last 6 years.
See, this is about a militant Islamism winning streak that should have been bitch slapped at the start. Al Qaida and other extremist thugs blew up TWO of our fricking embassies without retribution. They killed our boys in the Khobar Towers and on the U.S.S. Cole without retribution. They set off a truck bomb in the basement of the WTC without retribution. They killed a lot of our countrymates a year ago.
Bill Clinton is a traitor. He can never bullshit his way out of his profound dereliction of duty and cowardice. But, he's history, and he'll be dealt with.
Cue long overdue retribution. The dismantling of Iraq is morally justified. We had young soldiers who died in 1991 to stop the evil schemes of Saddam Hussein. We spared his life, his society, his people to honor our word. He's pissed on all of our soldier's graves for seven years now. Now he dies.
Iraq needed to fall. That will send a message that Bill Clinton would have sent had he harbored a scintilla of honor, integrity and character. It sends a message to the Arab and Muslim world ... we're not f***ing around this time.
Iran will fall from its own fissure. Shit canning Hussein, establishing a new democratic Iraq, can do nothing but put the last straw on some Mullah's favorite camel. Iran is ready to burn.
The fact is, sakic, you don't know WHO killed the 3000 victims. That world is nebulous. Bin Laden was booted from Saudi Arabia, as were many of his followers. You think he lived in Afghanistan because of the amenities? These are individuals without borders, they have no start or finish, but ... they do require money and protection and papers. Iraq gone. Iran gone. Oooh, those papers are now a bitch. That money is drying up too. The Hezbollah martyrs are giving plasma.
Your problem is that you won't support anything that permits our country and this president to win.
If Bush was planning to attack Jedda, you'd say ... what about Islamabad? Lose lose lose.
