I have decided to score myself by assigning a score of between 0 and 10 points to each of the planks! 10 means I agree with EVERYTHING in it. 0 means I agree with NOTHING in it!.
0 points! While we have seen some presidents abuse this greatly I do not think that is sufficient reason to attempt to curtail the chief executive of our land from doing his job! Executive orders, presidential decision directives, and other administrative mandates should however have force ONLY within the executive branch of the government. The problem the writers are trying to address here is one of a weak, compliant, legislative branch rather than one of the presidency IMHO!
My running score to this point remains 112 out of a possible 140.

Written political platforms are just "boob bait for the bubbas". They have NOTHING to do with the ACTUAL party agenda.
Watch what they do, not what they say.

Written political platforms are just "boob bait for the bubbas".Perhaps that is because, as in Texas, the "Bubbas" get to help right it if the participate in the process! A GOOD thing IMHO!
Watch what they do, not what they say.
NO argument from me there!

0 as well.
Congress has the power to overturn an executive order via legislation. But sometimes, action is needed.

I don't think I ever registered my score on the last plank, regarding the census. I could only give it a 5 because it was overreaching (as so much of this platform does).
On this plank, I'd give it a 0. In fact, I'd give it a minus number if I could.
There are far too many bad EOs in existence, but there are also far too many bad laws that Congress wrote in existence. The solution isn't to eliminate all laws or EOs.
My running total is 85.

Would you agree or disagree with this statement:
Executive orders, presidential decision directives, and other administrative mandates should have force ONLY within the executive branch of the government.
as a matter of constitutional law?

Executive orders, presidential decision directives, and other administrative mandates should have force ONLY within the executive branch of the government.I don't know how it could be otherwise. No branch of the government can dictate to another branch except as specifically permitted in the Constitution (Congress can limit the jurisdiction of a court, for example).

Thanks!
I believe there in lies the problem! Some of X-42's executive orders went FAR beyond these bounds IMHO and no one did anything about it. That's my only reason for asking the question.
Roosevelt did the same thing BTW with the same result!

The Platform development activities at political conventions are strictly designed to passify bubbas and idealogues. It is analogous to sending the children off to the playground while the adults tend to the real business.

Congress has the power to overturn an executive order via legislation.BINGO!
The Executive Order is a means by which the President tells the Executive Branch how to carry out his wishes as pertains to current law. ANY EO which creates new law can and should be overturned by Congress. The fact that Congress never acts should be held against THEM not the President.

I have to double my heartburn pills every time I attend one.
To: HoustonCurmudgeon
True. The real business, the real agenda, is not determined at these conventions. It is mostly established in one-on-one sessions between the fundraisers and the candidates.

Bush says: "US will return to UNESCO"!

Bush says: "US will return to UNESCO"! ...... was THAT in the platform? .......
To: Bigun
I agree. Zero points. Running total 108 / 140 (0.771).
Pick a plank we agree with next.... This one is a whopper on the average.

Looks like we all agree on this one.

More fun when we disagree on a plank. Then we get to educate each other on it.
Regarding Thread #9 (Your Abstain). That is chicken answer. I suspect you should give yourself a "5" (Neutral). Otherwise, technically you give yourself a "0", since your score is based on 140 points.
To: Flyer
How did you manage to give yourself an 11 on plank 11? Especially when the correct answer is zero? ;-)
