POLITICALLY, I adore the ground he walks on.
But I abhor the ground where he'll walk today.
George W. Bush is going to pitch the United Nations about why Iraq should be made a basketball court.
Talking to the United Nations is a little bit like striking a match to see how much gasoline you have in your tank.

I think so as well. I think the prez thinks so. Why are there SO many Americans who want to put their security in the hands of the UN?? Bush is going to have to be one tough leader........

Pres. Bush has got to make his show at the "Communist and Cannibal Club". Thats just part of his job.

"The president would be better served by just making Saddam Hussein a piece of ash - and ask nobody for permission. "Nice visuals. He is absolutely right but lets see how it plays out. Saddam is almost certainly going to step in it, being the meglomaniac that he is. When that happens it's "to the moon Alice, to the moon..."

Kofi Annan, chairman of the UN, is going to speak before Pres. Bush to attempt to embarass him into acting only with the UN. It is seriously starting to appear that these elitists are afraid of real consequences to their actions. They must be afraid that they are next.
To: kattracks
I don't think talking at the UN is going to change any support but who cares? It will be an oppurtunity to remind everyone that we have saved every one of their sorry @sses from some crisis or another, some repeatedly (are you listening France???) and that, with or without them we're going to do it. And we hope they don't like it.
I'd love to see one of these tin cup, 3rd world, ugga-bugga, always on the brink of starvation, "People's Republik" scumbags even hint that they would use force to try to stop us......
To paraphrase: "This is a 44 Megaton thermonuclear device and it will vaporize you and yo' mama. Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do you?"

The ability of the USA to act and succeed diminishes the significance and importance of the UN. When they argue for UN unity, UN elitists are really saying please do not leave us behind. The UN is stuggling to be seen as the leader of the world, the fact that the USA is ACTING like the leader of the world is in no way lost to the UN leadership.

IMHO the President's appearance at the UN is mere window dressing. It goes along with the old saying that appearances are 90% of reality. He will say his piece, perhaps listen to others, then he will do what is right for the US, UN be damned. But, he will have the cover that he went to the UN. I do not think the Big 5 will dare to turn him down. In private, I believe they are all on board - in public, it's about politics and keeping power. I think the same thing will happen with the US Congress - GWB will go there, ask for their "permission", then do the right thing regardless. Again, I think the Democrats will fall into line - the handwriting is on the wall.

Very well put. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Yes, and I believe in all my heart and soul that our President shares this view. What he is doing today is checking off a box that the traitorous left in our nation continually demand..."take it to the UN"!
Now, with this done, he can, in good conscience, tell the left to stick their whining where the sun don't shine and get the hell out of the way.

I agree with Steve Dunleavy 100%. The reason President Bush went to the U.N wasn't to get permission to defend ourselves but to place the anti-American bunch who run the place on notice that we mean business. I'm sure they'll condemn us for attacking Iraq til they're blue in the face but at least they know the world will never be the same again after its all over. Koffi Annan can take his precious demand for a U.N sanction on the use of force and get lost. That's the way most Americans feel about the U.N and I suspect President Bush knows it and if it comes to the point where we have to do it alone, so be it. At least no one can say after today that they weren't warned.

I like the idea of Lake Texas better than a mere basketball court.. (turning Iraq into...)
In fact with reagard to Iraq, Iran, Suadi Arabia etc - Lake Texas, Lake Pentagon, Lake New York and Lake Pennsylvania...
Could end up being nice places to visit.
