In her interview with Radio Habana, La Riva quoted Castro as stating that leftists’ anti-war activities involve a struggle in which “the very survival of humanity is at stake.” In a 1999 speech to the socialist/communist Workers World Party commemorating the 40th anniversary of the communist Cuban revolution, La Riva described Castro’s Cuba as “a revolutionary society created by workers in industry and agriculture and by students” having “mass organizations in every workplace, school and neighborhood.”"

"In the words of Thomas Paine, "These are the times that try men's souls." In the midst of danger, we have the opportunity to see people as they really are, defenses down, forced out into the open. We see people display a strength and character we never knew they had. We also see crass opportunism, hypocrisy and exploitation more clearly than ever before. We rethink. We change our minds.
On the positive side, I always believed President George W. Bush would be a good leader; I now know that the crisis in America tapped the greatness in him. He will lead us on a hard and dangerous journey to victory. He will advance the cause of America as "one nation, indivisible, under God, with liberty and justice for all."
On the negative side, there is no longer any doubt in my mind that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is an anti-God organization, whose primary goal is the establishment of religious apartheid in America. All doubts evaporated when this hideous group of left-wing legal zealots demanded that Breen Elementary School in Rocklin, Calif., remove a message on a marquee in front of the school that said, "God Bless America."
The ACLU declared that these three words were "a hurtful, divisive message." This ideological assault on God and country tells all thinking Americans everything they need to know about this twisted organization." The names of the people who contribute to the ACLU should be revealed and widely broadcast."
