The pope also urged the world to change in situations of injustice that spurred the desire for revenge.

A veiled slap at the United States?

"...urged the world to change in situations of injustice..."

No, not the United States. But a good number of other places.

I don't think it is a slap, the Pope is doing his job... which is to be a moral guidepost... reminds the world not to simply act out of vengence.. The US is unquestionably justified morally and ethically in their war or terror, but cannot engage in them as a whole, guided by nothing more than revenge. There must be a higher moral principle.

In my oppinion, it is this requirement, and rejection of base animalistic urges, that seperates Judeo/Christian societies from all others. There is unquestionable a moral superiority defacto built into this world view, and it is why the United States and western societies in general have achieved far more than others, and it is why Israel can be a bastion of self created wealth and prosperity, in a region of the world where no other nation has created anything but pretty much sand.
