"Both Smith and Barr were the #1 targets for elimination by liberal Democrats"
Let us not forget that the RINOs also had a big hand in this defeat!
To: Commander8
I hate the Dole type RINO's as much as the next guy, but there is ZERO evidence that Sunnunu is a RINO. In fact, there is much evidence that he will be one of the most conservative men in the Senate. All you people calling Sunnunu a RINO, please post your evidence.

If Bush can get his bills passed in the House, the Senate would be easy... Oh would it now? You mean like the recent antics of REPUBLICAN J. McCain who held up nominations? or other Rinos who want their leftist agendas to pass thru. RINOS are Democrats. I see nothing "GOOD" about this for our country

And he would lose in November.

All you people calling Sunnunu a RINOHe is definately more of a strict "party man" than Smith was, but the true conservative got beat in this one.

Here's my two cents on this whole thing.
Since this is a conservative forum, we should ALL be disappointed that Smith lost. Not happy he lost because "he can't win it". Smith was a great Senator.
But, since that is sadly done, Sununu is better than a Democrap.

Very well stated. I still cannot believe that our champion, conservative hero, Bob Smith has been defeated especially by someone like Sununu who is so clearly unqualified to hold public office based on his disturbing voting record. Conservatives are going to have a hard time regrouping and finding new leaders, but I suspect that the imminent Republican takeover of the Senate will be a fleeting one as the Bush signed Democrap Congressional Majority Insurance (Campaign Finance Reform) Bill kicks in the day after the election and ensures the Democrap takeover of both Houses come 2004.
Almost as bad, I predict that if Bush invades Iraq, the US will suffer thousands of casualties due either to WMD or anti-ship missile attacks and the public outcry will result in him being defeated in 2004. So we have the prospect of one-party Republican rule after 2002 elections followed by one-party Democrap rule following the 2004 elections and for some time thereafter. If Bush does not invade Iraq, I predict that he will be re-elected--one of the more important reasons why I am opposing invasion.

This race looked a lot like the Salier-Ganske race in Iowa. It is truly a sad time for conservatives.

Well if you prefer keeping Daschle in control then that's that... I don't... That wasn't my question. My question was.. What will we accomplish having a Majority of RINOS.. I said nothing about the Extreme left, I'm talking about having the MODERATE LEFT in control here.

And if we Do win the Senate and it's full of all Leftist Rino's Then what? Then they will vote to confirm President Bush's conservative judges and when O'Conner and Rehnquist retire, President Bush can nominate conservatives to the Supreme Court and get them approved.
To: Japedo
if the Senate is run by rinos, Tiny Tom and the Rats will not be in charge and thats a good thing, just ask Judge Pickering

I like Sen. Smith. I may be one of the few Americans who has a "Smith for President" bumpersticker tucked away. I'll miss him. *sniff* Thank you, Senator.
