Hasn't that been Karen Harris (sp? name?) whoever that is running for Congress and had to give up her position??? wasn't she the one responsible for all this???
To: kellynla
No. The elections are managed at the county level.

Well at least she is in the clear. So all of this is the individual counties' responsibility or will they be able to blame Jeb Bush for it???
To: kellynla
Back to the original voting machine that worked well in Floriduh!

Won't be blaming Jeb. Here's a link to a really interesting article in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.
Seems they're calling for the replacement of the Broward County Supervisor of Elections in that county.
Evidently her staunchest supporters in the past have been the NAACP and People for the American Way, but now (AND THERE IS WONDERFUL IRONY IN THIS), these groups as well as other Dems think that Jeb should replace her before the Nov. election.

Maybe it time to get someone else to run the elections besides the government. How about privite accounting firms like Ernst & Young backed by security firms like Lumis-Fargo?

This isn't incompetence. It's fraud. It was fraud 2 years ago and it's fraud now.

I voted in Duval with the optical ballot. Smooth as butter. The ballot can't be tampered with. Each ballot is read and counted before you leave, and the count is visible to the voter.
In 2000, the counties that used optical ballots had no changes during the recount process.

I used the new touch screen. No problems either, although, it felt odd not to have something tangible in my hand to prove how I voted.
Intellectually, I know that once you put your ballot in the ballot box, the process was out of your hands and in the hands of the election workers, but having a machine just flash a screen at you and say, "Your vote has been registered" was definitely sort of freaky.

Right you are. The more complex and fool-proof the voting machinery, the more "inept" and "prone to mishap" the problems.
This an utter joke.
To: dawn53
I do not trust the touch screen machines. As a programmer I am aware of how easy it could be to tamper with those machines. With current encryption technology it would be possible to publish the raw data from these machines, or from the optical machines. Each voter could be given a receipt with a transaction number and be able to verify their vote online. You could even do it in such a way that anyone finding your receipt could not find out how you voted without a pin number.

RE: Fisher-Price Voting Device
LOL!
This whole thing puts me in mind of commentary I read two years ago, to the effect that, this is the logical conclusion for the party that makes its' entire appeal to the stupid!
What do you do when your constituency is too stupid to vote?

I'd much rather not have on-line verification, because even with encryption and a "foolproof" PIN number, how YOU voted would still be available to someone other than yourself, and that opens up a whole keg of worms. Now, a receipt that is printed where the voter can easily claim it, that is something worth looking into.
To: dawn53
A paper ballot can always be re-counted; that can never reliably be done with an electronic voting machine.
You just have to take the machine's "word" for a count, and hope it hasn't been tampered with.
Thank heavens computers can't be hacked, eh?

I think it is interesting to see how Democrats like Janet Reno know how to manipulate the voter system. Remember Democrats are the king of voter fraud. When you know how to do this and it is close race this is always how it happens.
You opponent jumps out to an early lead and then at the end of the night, the Democrats (Janet Reno in this case) gets a few precincts where she knows how to stuff the ballot box. She finds out how many votes she needs at the end of the night and starts the stuffing in her picked out counties (usually predominantly African American precincts where she has a deal with the precinct chair.) See how the gap narrowed at the end? This is the same thing Al Gore did in Florida, Michigan, and Missouri.
To: oyez
Accounting firms may not be such a good idea...especially after the Andersen (sp?) debacle...but heck if FL can get the lottery done why not an election????
To: San Jacinto
Yeah, her campaign manager has said they are going to have to look very closely at the validity of the election. Oh please, let them file a lawsuit and let it go to the Florida Supreme Court. That would be just too rich! It ought to keep them busy until long after Bush wins.
To: hole_n_one
Here's the latest (10:15am 11 September). Miami-Dade has lots of votes left to swing Janet's direction. I don't understand the complete omission of Union county. Did I miss something last night?

...how YOU voted would still be available to someone other than yourself,...Not except through coercion. If you are referring to union thugs, then perhaps.
