Fearful of new terror attacks but armed with little specific information, the United States has adopted "a higher sense of guard" in the run-up to the Sept. 11 anniversary, the White House said Tuesday.

While officials say they have no details outlining an impending attack, they're taking no chances.

The FBI told police, utilities, banks and the transportation industry to be wary. U.S. military bases and diplomatic missions worldwide also are on high security alert for the week.

I know. Actually, I live next door to the Charleston Air Force Base, and I see alot of activity that gives me the chills. I've never paid much attention to the place until 9/11, and everything started happening. It was strange to see armed soldiers in my neighborhood, as well as all of the planes (C-17's?) taking off all day, everyday. I have a newfound respect for these guys, esp. the pilots.
