[history]
Vice President Richard B. Cheney said yesterday that Saddam Hussein is "actively and aggressively" trying to build a nuclear bomb, and two key senators disclosed that U.S. officials have warned the Iraqi dictator that he and his country face "annihilation" if he deploys a weapon of mass destruction.

From
Study: 3 million would die in worst-case Calif. terror scenario:
Anthrax and other lethal biological agents pose the biggest danger in the wrong hands -- far worse than a small nuclear device or a chemical attack with a ton of sarin gas, the substance used in a 1995 attack on the Tokyo subway, the RAND study found.
In a worst-case scenario, a nuclear or chemical attack in San Francisco, San Diego or Los Angeles would kill as many as 80,000 people. But 220 pounds of anthrax, if properly dispersed under optimum conditions, would cover 180 square miles. Deaths could reach in the millions.
From Meet The Press yesterday:
VICE PRES. CHENEY: Who did the anthrax attack last fall, Tim?

It really doesn't matter what Saddam does, as long as when push comes to shove, we've scared his generals such that should he push the proverbial button, nothing would happen.
Precisely.
If you are able to do two things: concentrate the minds of his officers on his personal survival and disrupt Saddam's C3I system, you've gone 90% of the way towards killing Hussein's WMD system.
The whole idea of deterrence is that the weapons, nuclear or otherwise, will be used if a country is attacked. This idea falls down without a reliable chain of command system.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

But if the entire chain of command involves e-mailing some left-luggage locker numbers to a hotmail account, it may be close to invulnerable.

Thanks, that should be shown to everyone come wednesday.

Hopefully, we'll see nuclear-armed B52s executing figure-of-eights over Baghdad 24x7 once this thing heats up a bit.

what country will he be hiding in when we bomb Iraq?

I don't even need to go any farther. PC is so run amuck, the general populace could not stomach wiping out an entire nation; even if it meant for the sake of it's own prosperity. We now live amongst a country of 50% cowards. Where's my proof? Look how many voted for Gore.I think you're right. Throw in the few that voted for Nader and you get 50+%
It will take another 911 or even two before those morons wake-up.
My ex-wife who voted for Clinton twice couldn't stomach voting for Gore... she just abstained in 2000.
Most of them avoid politics and vote for the best-looking dem candidate.
They are a sorry lot!

I don't think he'll be sitting in Baghdad with his feet up on his desk.

I am amused lately at the attacks against Saddam.. Reminds me of the Hitler has only 1 testicle stuff that went around during WW2.
Maybe both are true though, but anyway I love it when we slander our enemies' sexual abilities. You just know that ticks them off, like when serial killers are lampooned in the news.. Makes em nuts.
Is Cheney the last brave American? Seriously.. It seems like everyone is so SCARED now that they are frozen in place. Nobody wants to offend anyone hardly. Many people don't even like offending bin laden, much less Hussein.. Check out du.com to confirm.

I wonder if we get dirty bombed, if we'll be able to tell if it was a nuke that 'fizzled' and didn't go super critical because of poor workmanship. Is there any way to really tell? After all, the trigger explosives will blow the thing to bits.

Fissionable material is available on the open market. Nuclear weapons scientists are even more available than the fissionable material. All it takes is money and the will to do it. Iraq has plenty of both.

"Specifically, he said, the United States has been able to "intercept and prevent" Saddam from acquiring a kind of aluminum tube "necessary to build a centrifuge."Care to bet that the source of that tube was German?

VP Cheney was just so eloquent on this show this morning. He is so impressive and just oozes with confidence. Thank God the adults are running the show in the executive branch. We teetered on the brink in election 2000.
