This is pure Nationalist Socialism.
As soon as this is passed (if so), then all private property owners should get ready to bend way over, because...

Since Teddy Roosevelt, upper income Republicans have been handing over the small property owner to the leftist.

Hefley and Rahall were seen whispering to each other in a corner of the Capitol the other day, and thanks to some special infra-red photographic techniques, these very telling footprints were left by each, Hefley's on the right and Rahall's on the left...

The National Heritage Areas Policy Act is just the latest attempt by the federal government to purchase influence over local communities and their zoning practices. The federal government, or the "51st. State" already owns early 50% of the land of the USA. This is not a good ratio of fed, state and private ownership. Any increase of this percentage is toward feudalism, which, coincidentally enough, is communism without currency.
This is not what our Founding Fathers envisioned.
It certainly isn't what they envisioned when they established federalism. It was supposed to be the government of last resort internally, first resort externally. In a hundred years there will be no states, only regions and regional commissions appointed by Wash. DC.

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA), offered a commonsense amendment to H.R. 2388 calling for property owners to be notified when their land falls within the boundaries of a Heritage Area. Incredibly, Rep. Hefley and his cohorts voted down this amendment! Unbelievable.
Let's see, what did Hefly's oath of office say? IIRC that was "forts, dockyards, and other needful buildings."

I can see how this kind of a law could be a real problem.

In fact, during debate on the bill, perennial property rights champion Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA), offered a commonsense amendment to H.R. 2388 calling for property owners to be notified when their land falls within the boundaries of a Heritage Area. Incredibly, Rep. Hefley and his cohorts voted down this amendment! It seems that they would rather landowners be caught off-guard when the National Park Service comes for their property.
Pompo is on a growing list of Ron Paul's Liberty Caucus members. He is the only Californian. As opposed to the list of 59 socialists in the House. These guys go to bat for the people and get shut down most of the time.
I am hoping they can attract more liberty-minded reps. Last year they had 12 members. Now they have 20.

Only one from Calif. Arizona has 3 members. Jeff Flake is running for Senate in 2004. If you get on thier mailing list, you get emails when a Congressman joins up.

Rep. Joel Hefley (R-CO), is an example of a "Matronised" politician. This type of legislation plays well back home with the matronly ladies of the League of Women Voters. It is part of the "Sissification" of America. Why isn't there a League of Voting Men?

A "Republican" from Colorado introduced this bill? You know what Ann Coulter says about conservatives who begin to do the Left's dirty work for them? She says, in Slander, that such a Republican is being blackmailed by the Left....they've got him under their thumb. Wonder what the R-CO is so desperate to hide?
