On a sidenote: wasn't it King George the 3rd that addressed Parliament as "My Lords and Peacocks."? (Back during the time of the American Revolution..)


And the French seapower...true. Just look at France's 'battleship(s)' during WWII.....

Actually, France's navy was sunk by the British at the port of Oran during WWII, oddly enough.

After the fall of France, Churchill did not want the French fleet to fall into Nazis hands, so the order was given to the British battleships stationed in the Mediterranean to ask the French commanders to either stand down, sail for America, or be sunk.

The French chose rather gallantly to go down with their ships, rather than to surrender their forces to a foreign power, even if that foreign power was their ally.

Sad but true. It's almost been forgotten now, but the French certainly did die with honor on that one occasion.
