It's time to legalize pot

It's enough for a big thumbs up ... or a big light up, if you prefer.
Canada should legalize marijuana use by adults, a Senate committee recommended Wednesday. The report comes on the heels of a two-year study of public policy relating to pot.
The present system of prohibition on marijuana just doesn't work, the committee found. Obviously, the committee learned something from early 20th-century history, when alcohol was prohibited in the United States. Then, prohibition simply gave gangsters a product to move and people to shoot.
Instead of the current system that penalizes people for having small quantities of pot on them, there should instead be a regulated system for marijuana, perhaps like our current system for alcohol, the committee determined.
"Scientific evidence overwhelmingly indicates that cannabis is substantially less harmful than alcohol and should be treated not as a criminal issue but as a social and health issue," said Senator Pierre Claude Nolin, the committee chair.
It's true that taking pot still involves the harmful intake of smoke, which the committee recognized. But, as the committee pointed out, it's more of a health issue than anything else.
In addition, making pot legal would clear the way for our police to tackle other, more harmful crimes relating to the public good. Really, would you rather see a pot smoker or a child molester behind bars?
Whether the federal government will ever adopt the Senate recommendations is up in the air. Hopefully the feds won't throw up a smokescreen on this to cloud the issue, and goes ahead with legalization.

It has already been noted that quite a few of us are against the socialized medicine/welfare state as well. Kinda knocks the legs out from under that line of reasoning doesn't it?
To: f.Christian
I already cut this to ribbons the last time you posted it. Did you forget? Has alcohol destroyed your brain?

Now that you've slandered and insulted just about everyone still active on this thread, was there a point you were going to get around to making? Or should we just short-cut that and see who can hit the abuse button first?
Wow you all are touchy today aren't you when an historical fact is presented, Hillary saying that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary.
Go ahead and press the abuse button if Hillary saying that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary is not an historical fact.

However, I finally decided I did not want to pay taxes to support all those drug addicted maligners who won't or can't work because they have to do drugs. I don't want to pay for raising their children or for agencies to come in and be sure the children are fed or are not murdered in a drug induced state by their loving mother and father.
Well, it's not your own original piece, but I won't hold that againt you. This is what is called a "Straw Man". The people who are going to use drugs after legalization is not going to be appreciable more than those using drugs now. You say, "NO WAY!". Well, are you going to start smoking the demon weed, how about your family members, people you know at work? People who are going to smoke already are. No one's sitting at home with their finger's crossed waiting for legalization, and to suggest such is silly. Any money that is currently going in this direction (which I've never gotten anyone to actually give me a number of dollars spent this way) is already being spent. Nothing changes here - a good example of your "specious argument". Sounds good! Let get people behind it, but it's just not true.
Sorry - try again. People just don't want to be called criminals when they are bothering anyone. Why can't you and others leave people alone?

Wow you all are touchy today... Not as touchy (or bored) as you were the other day when you tried in vain to argue that legalization advocates shouldn't have free speech rights.

You know, comparing me to the Hildebeast is about the silliest thing I've ever seen you do. For starters, I am against all forms of socialism, unlike you, who insists on having government nannies watch every citizen night and day. For another thing, I could not care less what my fellow citizens eats, drinks, sings, or watches on TV, as long as it doesn't affect me. You, on the other hand, seem to be in agreement with those who would ban fast food, since "It's for the chirren". Third, I don't recall the Hildebeast ever saying anythng about marijuana to begin with, so what the Hell are you rambling about? Have a little too much Ripple with your lunch?

I did grow a goatee at my wifes insistance. A woman who doesn't mind the facial hair - encourages it! You sir, are truely blessed. :-)

You have still failed to say anything at all about the subject matter Dane. Care to grow up a bit? Or would you like to completely disrupt the thread by your facination with Hillary?

Bwaaaaaahahahaha!

That would be when they are NOT bothering anyone

For someone who keeps claiming to have better things to do with their time you sure spend a lot of time posting on this thread. No, I'm actually posting on other, more interesting threads as well.
My comments here are actually quite efficient, generating a swarm of at least 5 or 6 botflies for every one of my replies.
In a way, I look upon it as a charitable service.
I have a rather thick hide, so the nasty little barbs don't bother me much.
And it helps keep the swarm of botflies off the other, more intelligent threads.

I've thought so a time or two as well. ;-)
I think its a family thing. You could plop her father down in the middle of Amish country and he wouldn't stand out at all. Heck of a nice guy.

You mean when you post some crazy talk and then

Yep, that's the manly style I'm used to dealing with

Alcohol and cigarettes kills more people than crack, coke and heroin - combined!
Out and out lie. Or skewed counting. Of course there are many more people that use alcohol and cigarettes and a far smaller number that have been pulled into the drug culture.
Yet - when you add up all the drug killings, the death and abuse to others by those stoned out of their minds or working with a damaged mind, when you add in all the effects of the drug on the quality of work in every aspect of American life and the results - you would understand that idiots seeking entertainment will bring this wonderful country down year after year.
Of course, honestly looking at what the drug culture has done to America is not on your agenda. You are in denial and selfishly claiming your right to be a drug addict sucking the lifeblood from the country and pulling all your fellow Americans with you.
Don't expect me to also be a fool and believe your lame excuses or think you are hurting no one but yourself - or you are still equipped with the brain and the abilities you had when you started on your tour of the drug culture. Look at the potential for the future of those taking drugs - it is not the same as the potential when they started their pursuit of the wonders of chemical thrills.
There are some mighty fine salesmen in the drug trade and look at the results of their efforts on American life. We now have every corporation trying to protect itself from ruin with alcohol and drug programs and every citizen pays for it. We now have a WOD with millions upon millions spent to try and control the onslaught on innocent Americans and the future generation.
We have every job in the country affected by drug induced mistakes, corruption, irresponsibility and abuse. The quality output of every drug controlled employee in this country affects every single American as they merely visit doctors, hospitals, run errands, use transportation, shop.
Yet - this is of no concern to you because you see - you have no responsibility to others because you take drugs and you have the right to destroy anything or anybody in your personal gratification. You are no longer the master of your life - a chemical tells you what to do. Or will be telling you what to do should you still not be addicted yet.
Such an absolute waste of potential.

You constantly bring Hillary into the argument. Well why shouldn't I? One of Hillary's biggest backers is uber Socialist and drug leagalizer George Soros(not one pro-druggie has denied that).
Again and again, you're reminded that Hillary has never come out in favor of legalization, that her husband's administration spent more on the WOD and arrested more during his 2 terms than any other US president. Hillary has never supported legalization, at least never that I'm aware of (if someone knows something I don't, please, point it out)
And again and again I have to state to you all that you beleive in what Hillary says, I look at actions, and one of Hillary's actions is having Geroge Soros as one of her bestest buddies.
Sheesh your above italicized statement is like saying that Bill Clinton "never had sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky".
Oh well some I guess will never learn in the quest of love for the wonderweed.
Even if that means believing the Clintons.

Read up and learn, dopeheads. Basic translation: Inhaling burning materials into your body probably isn't the wisest of ideas. But, I think everyone - even marijuana smokers - know this.
So, what's your point? I could post just as many links (and more) about how harmful bacon double-cheese burgers and soda are.
