If you love the Empire that much, then you may leave this free country, which you must feel is deplorable, and return to imperialism.
Our efforts are not puny, we will overcome the odds and you will be defeated.

Thou knowest that Hancock is wealthy indeed and hated by the King and all England. Why, the price upon his head was already 500 pounds before he signed the Declaration. I was there when Hancock took pen in hand and inscribed his signature in such enormous letters, saying that "his Majesty could now read his name without glasses and could now double the reward."
Old Franklin chimed in with "Indeed we must all hang together, otherwise we shall most assuredly hang separately." Truer words were never spoken. There is much to lose and much at stake. God be with us and fight for us. Our Cause is just.

This is why your puny efforts to defy the King will fail. Such hypocrisy. You will come back to the Mother Land ... beaten and failed ...
Mayest thou happen to have a large supply of shiny burlap? Otherwise, mayest thou returnest to Kingdom Underground - Me thinkest they may be calling for thee...

Well that's nothing. Guess who I saw with Mr. Thomas Jefferson. Let's just say that he better hope they never invent some scientific method of tracing a person's family history, or he'll be in the talk of the colonies 200 years from now!

I found this thread in a comment posted on "A day in the life of President Bush."
I love American history and a favorite recent read was "April 18 (or 19), 1775". One of the story lines was about Sam Adams and his hatred of the British and longing for Americans to kick the Brits out of the colonies. Sam controlled waterfront gangs and sent them out to trash the homes of the British leaders, tarring and feathering some of the loyalists. He wasn't above, either, writing letters to newspapers with atrocious lies about the Brits just to stir Americans up against them. I was appalled when I read this, but deep in my heart, I was grateful to that Samuel Adams. I'd love to have met him. I've been reading this week in "The First American", about Ben Franklin. Sam Adams, and even more so his cousin John Adams, were not quite sure of Franklin's loyalty. And they thought him a hedonist.
Anyway, one of the things I love about Americans, and it's something the founders considered especially hopeful for the nation's survival, is our contentiousness. This thread is terrific. I plan to read along and ENJOY!

Methink'st thou art a general offence and every man should beat thee. 'Twould be my joy to land the first blow.
Get thy Biblical Beast of Burden in line, upstart! It looketh as if I am 437th in line, and that line stretcheth almost to the dockyard ten furlongs behind me!
I daresay that if the good folk of the Continental Congress started charging a copper or two for the privelege of smiting "arnold knows," our national finances would be greatly improved.
Saw Hancock's signature. Jolly good show! And Granger's Tavern outdid themselves with their cheesesteak sandwiches.
Samuel Adams provided some very nice ale--and it was his own work! When this war is won, he could make quite a business of his brewmastering. "Samuel Adams' Pale Ale" has a certain ring to it.

Get this ... the Brits are requiring everyone to sign the following:
"I voluntarily take this OATH to bear FAITH and true ALLEGIANCE to His MAJESTY KING George the Third and to defend to the utmost of my POWER HIS sacred Person, Crown and Government against ALL Persons whatsoever."
No. They're not scared, not at all. /sarcasm

Har! His secret is safe, sir. Never doubt it! That's as likely as someone developing a craft which sails on air. Never happen.

WaterDragon, you've really sparked my interest with your comments, causing me to head to Google for a little research this morning. Your nuggets of info can be worked into some good "historical" posts, methinks. Sam and Ben and so many others certainly were fascinating guys. I'd like to have met them all!

Have you had the chance to read T. Paine's new tome Common Sense? He makes some very compelling arguments on why we should break our ties with England and King George's oppressive monarchy.
Sadly, to many Torie lovers, Common Sense is nothing more than shillings, quids, and pence.
And what pray tell is a "craft which sails on air?"
'tis a bedevilment that anyone could conceive of such a thing!

Ah, yes, that great American "Patriot" Thomas Paine ... the only thing worse than his spelling is his perfidy. Ask yourself, just where did he get the funds to publish this bunch of twaddle ... hmmmm?! Think you it came from the great masses yearning to breathe free and willing to support those carrying that message .... only to see the message has no merit? Think you it was a wise way to spend their money? I think not.

Say what you will, our American women are true patriots who do not require endless pampering. Take Crazy Anne Bailey ... who rode 100 miles through wilderness ... woods with no paths ... from Ft. Lee to Lewisburg in order to retrieve much needed ammunition for a coming attack.
Now go take your pearl encrusted snuff box and go back across the pond.
PS ... Crazy Anne also swore and drank. HA!
