I assume Gar still uses a manual typewriter and washes his clothes in the creek.

If you have these manually-powered machines, keep them for Y2K things or museums. Gar wouldn't wash his clothes in the actual creek, but would bring up a bucket of water to heat over his clean-burning, non-smoking campfire. And his roast aurochs steak wouldn't smoke, either.
