That night as he was entering his favorite London pub, just as he put his hand on the door knob, a bomb dropped by the Luftwaffe destroyed the entire building.
Next day, he showed up at the army enlistment center.
"What changed your mind?" asked the sergeant.
"The bloody Germans," shouted Donovan, "blew a saloon right out of me hand!"
