The word "infedel", as used here means someone who is attacking you, or plotting against you or your people. This verse tells us to protect ourselves and not to hesitate to use deadly force to stop an attack. There is no English word that can translate this very well. That is why Muslims learn Arabic. We can translate for ourselves.
