education went into a downward spiral back in the early 20's - 30's. Do you agree?

Yes. Alot of things seem to have begun to change in the 20's, and the changes seem to have accelerated in the ensuing decade.

And what little I have read of Dewey seems to indicate that mediocrity, homogeneity and non-academic socialization have been in the cards for public schools since before there was a public education system as we know it. I.E. -- all of the things so many ppl hate about it are precicely what it was indended to be.

But you and gummi seem to have devoted considerably more study to the subject than I have.

Listening to people like yourself, reading a few online articles..and studying the homeschool philosophy through various methods and reading the book "Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling" helps understand the reasoning behind homeschooling and alternatives to public schools. I never even considered homeschooling as an alternative until it was pointed out to me from a friend (ONLINE)who homeschooled his 3 boys clear up to highschool. There is a freeper named "born in a rage" who has been collecting homeschool links for a very long time. (she's awesome BTW) Her links to previous articles etc., will give someone a great education about "education"..
