The [Laguna Beach] skull had a 'rather bizarre post-excavation history,' and it is not certain that the 14C-dated skull used in the calibration was in fact the one from Laguna Beach [p. 51].
Perhaps also assignable to this interval [30,000-15,000 years ago] is the Laguna Beach skull, 14C-dated at circa 17,150 B.P. [Before Present], but uncertainties regarding provenience make this ascription tenuous [p. 71].
Arlington Springs is most likely still the oldest in this area. Regional meetings in about two weeks, so should hear of any new findings then.

When the oceans rose there was undoubtedly a terrible famine for many centuries until new alluvial fans were created along the margins of the ocean.
Tribune Inc. owned it for a long time. That group is undergoing some financial reconstruction (since all it owns are losers) so maybe the LA Times is owned by someone else by now.
