The conservative group Free Republic is planning a smaller counter-demonstration to oppose the anti-globalization protesters.

Why?

Don't tell me that this website supports Globalism?

FreedomFriend:

I think if globalization interferred with self-defense or core national objectives, it might be bad. It's not a per se good or bad thing.

But these unwashed, socialist protestors vowing to destroy property ARE a bad thing. (Also, on a little personal note, I live in DC and they litter like crazy; so much for being "green.")

Most people here understand and approve of free markets. What they don't approve of (and what these anarchists, etc. are actually for) is global socialism (i.e., global taxation, global "family" planning, anything imposed by the U.N., etc.).

These anarchists and misfits are simply opposing and protesting against capitalism and would love to see some of the latter mentioned above imposed upon the entire world.

I can't understand conservatives supporting this IMF/WB globalist crew. These people might be protesting for the wrong reasons, but at least they have identified the enemy.

Globalism, no. Free markets, yes. Everywhere in the world.

I am opposed to WTO/IMF/World Bank myself, but for entierly different reasons. I am concerned about U.S. sovereignty and about the stringent requirements (including tax increases) that IMF and World Bank often impose on countries as a condition of receiving their aid, economic conditions that the commisars at teh World Bank and IMF absolutely know will only keep these developing countries from developing -- but then, that is the principal goal of the Left worldwide -- to keep anyone else from gettingas well-off as they are.

Frankly, I am also concerned that IMF/World Bank and all forms of foreign aid are unconstitutional.

Nevertheless, these Communists need to be countered and taken down a few notches. They are opposed tomarkets, trade, and development. They are enemies of the American way of life, and any chance to expose them is a chance we should take.

Because the people who show up to these anti-globalist rallies are usually marxists, anti-american, American - hatinganarchisits, socialists and anyone with a pet cause that come together merely to protest something. usually a bunch of bored college kids who don't know what life is about.

Globalism, when used by these so-called "anti-globalization protestors," is simply a code word for capitalism. Just listen to their rhetoric for a while, and you'll see.

To put it another way, they protest against global capitalism and want global communism, while we are opposed to a global government that hampers capitalism, and support free trade and sovereignty instead--ideally, everywhere around the world, or "globally" if you like. (But the world is currently very, very far away from that ideal.)
