Why the heck is Free Republic being mentioned in an AP article for planning a "counter demonstration" of the WTO/IMF protestors?

Hey, I'm with the DC Chapter and I live right near their Ground Zero protests each year. TRUST ME they're only PRETENDING to hate the World Bank. What they actually hate is private property. As per the above news article, they intend to destroy some. They make it clear that they want to harm the entire "system" in downtown DC.

They come, they have banners about the virtues of socialism, etc. Oh, TRUST me, they're socialists. Also there are a lot of Green Party people that come with environmental stuff. (Hey, I even believe there's manmade global warming, but I'd protest their anti-capitalist solutions to it.)

The name of the group is the Anti-Capitalist Convergence. That should give you an idea that globalization is just this banner for their rantings.

The protestors are a motley crew, I loathe what they do, and what they stand for, but I gotta tell you, I'm almost as angry at the elitist goobers who keep planning these meetings in world capitals. Maddning, infuriating, where oh where has common sense gone?

Exactly, FreeThe Hostages. You hit it right on the head. I don't like the IMF (unless Peter Graves is involved) or the World Bank for good, principled conservative reasons, but these people, if they were consistent, should love these institutions. They promote socialism, and socialism or worse is what these people are about. That and getting high.

They must be countered not because they PRETEND to be opposed to the IMF/World Bank, but because it's only a pretense, and as FTH said, the real agenda is to impose socialism or worse on this country through the back door of "environmentalism."

These guys are a bunch of mint-flavored cherries: Green on the outside, Red on the inside.
