WASHINGTON (AP) Anti-globalization demonstrators, relatively subdued since the Sept. 11 terror attacks, are preparing a clamorous return to the streets this month when the World Bank and International Monetary Fund meet.

Protest organizers said Tuesday they expect thousands to turn out on the weekend of Sept. 28 outside the Washington headquarters of the global financial institutions. The demonstrators oppose policies they say harm the environment and people in poor countries.

Far be it from me to offer advice to the DC chapter...you guys are sterling....and also very very smart about these things. I'm sure Kristinn has already done his homework, and his cautious common sense on protesting is well-known, but.

I'd be very worried about how this is unfolding...it's almost as if you're being baited to show up. Think about it...how much more newsworthy if the protestors get protested, especially if it's by a gasp conservative group that could be so easily portrayed unfavorably by the media.

I'm suspicious, wary.

Free Republic is *opposing* anti-globalization?

The media usually emphasisis the environwackos as the only anti-globalization protesters.

Is Free Republic pro-globalization? This is news to me.

Did I read something wrong?

Exactly...the media always makes the environ leftist wackos out to be the lone protesters. And so what they dress like turtles and I do not agree with them, I am anti-globalization and so are they.

I recognize the validity of yer concern, but look who these folks are...

"Last year's meeting was canceled after the attacks, so protesters called off their plans, with many holding anti-war demonstrations instead." and "One anarchist group known to participate in anti-globalization events, the Anti-Capitalist Convergence"

These folks are anti-American zealots!! How is the Vast, LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd--already reeling from an utter lack of credibility--gonna portray us patriotic Americans in an unfavorable light?! It's OUR Country and if these spoiled rich brats don't like it, they're welcome to get the hell outta Dodge!! These folks are Leftists through and through and the Good Folks who make America work--while these morons flit from one anti-America demonstration to the next--need to make their presence known as well!! There are many more of US than there are of THEM!!

Define your definition of globalization.

The organization called The United Nations that coined the word and ideals surely defines it very close to post 8.

Just because some leftist liberals are against it, it does not make it green peace and weird wacko, tree hugging laws. It is what it is, New World Order, globalization.

You make no sense and are wishy-washy about globalization.

Let's not define "it" or "is," please. There is but only one definition. DID CLINTON TAKE OVER THIS SITE? You are either for it or against it.Just because not all of the United Nations WE THE PEOPLES is not yet in order and happening does not make it NOT globalization.

So oppose them and their causes. Not what they are against.

Well Mud, at the demonstrations, "they" will outnumber the "us" (DC Freepers), by tens of thousands.

You asked, "How is the Vast, LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd--already reeling from an utter lack of credibility--gonna portray us patriotic Americans in an unfavorable light?"

The LWMWhores will misrepresent the reason we're there. It will look as if we're there supporting everything the protestors are against, and nothing could be further from the truth. Everything you said about our motivation is absolutely true, but the LWMWhores aren't about to go into that, much easier to portray us as pro-Globalism, pro-corporate greed, and make no mistake about it, this is going to turn into an anti- President Bush, anti- war demonstration. Which means Anti-protestors, like FreeRepublic can easily be portrayed as pro war, pro killing innocent civilians, and pro the war mongering American president.

Like I said, I'm not qualified to give advice to Kristinn and Angelwood, but I couldn't help but express my instant reaction to the Ho article.

So will the FR chapter be protesting PRO This or this?

I see it no other way than supporting the U.N. WE THE PEOPLES declaration which IS globalization.

FR is about supporting whoever has an (R) after their name.

DC Chapter has as many opinions as it has members. We agree on most of the really important things, and disagree on some few smaller things. Wearing an (R) after one's name does not guarantee the DC Chapter's support.

Being honest, honorable, principled and loyal to our Constitution is what really counts. (That really culls the herd on the Hill.)

But that's just my own personal opinion, the rest of the DC Chapter can tell you what they think. :-)

The way the article is written looks bad.

Why not protest environwacko leftists PERIOD. Why the need to protest them when they are anti-koffi annan for different turtle head like reasons but it is their right.

Last time the media had a circus and a man was killed.

The conservative group Free Republic is planning a smaller counter-demonstration to oppose the anti-globalization protesters.

Just because the word conservative is used does not mean the media will not twist this to FR as being pro-globalization. These things get downright dangerous, a man was killed in the last protest like this.

I am concerned by the way some on here are defining "globalization" as if it is not bad because the WE THE PEOPLES declaration on the UN web page is not complete and in action. And FR's name on this protest..., going *against* anti-globalization.This may be the only message the media has a hay day with, no matter what posters of the DC chapter may put on poster boards. I am concerned.

"Opposing THEM does not imply acceptance of all forms of globalization. "

Not to you and me perhaps, but thats not how it will be perceived. I'd be marching WITH THEM.

Hi YaYa... the media may want to play it as you are wondering. Our signs will keep the media from distorting the story.

We could just sit it out, I suppose, and let them have free reign in our nation's Capital. We could let them spew their America hating, anti freedom, communist venom to cameras from all over the world. Or we could meet them with our pithy signs and vocal commentary, laying bare their true agenda for the media to report.

Evil will triumph when good men (and women;-) do nothing.

Don't worry, YaYa... we'll be careful. Our all volunteer security guys are ever vigilant.

I'd march with you. Unlike most of the Capitalists on this site, I too am anti-Global, NWO, WTO, UN yada, yada, yada. I won't cheer the DC group on this subject.

Though the majority here are just like that, some of us oppose. I'd be marching WITH the protesters, not against them.

"I couldn't help but express my instant reaction to the Ho article."

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't downplaying your reaction as you are certainly one whose opinion I value...yer a veteran of the FReepWars!!

"...make no mistake about it, this is going to turn into an anti-President Bush, anti-war demonstration."

Which is why we MUST be there, IMHO...you've seen the DeeCee FReepers in action, a nobler group of protesters you'll find nowhere. Always well-mannered, always law-abiding, but never cowed...and with video cameras abounding, we can get the truth out if there were to be an incident.

"Which means Anti-protestors, like FreeRepublic can easily be portrayed as pro war, pro killing innocent civilians, and pro the war mongering American president."

Now I was too young to be involved, but is this the same excuse used by Good Americans who refused to stand up and be counted in the late 60's when the Leftist Peaceniks protested against OUR boys overseas?!! That was a horrible mistake that I hope this Nation NEVER repeats!!

"If you are talking about globalization meaning the spread of capitalism and free markets to areas in the world where they don't exist, then it should be supported."

I disagree. Free trade is the worst thing that ever happened to this country. The state of the ecomony and debt proves me correct.
