A toast to a man of dignity, honor and truth! Much like our beloved President George W. Bush. Thanks, Pat! You always were fair on your show and you just proved what a real stand up guy you are. Your family must be VERY PROUD of you! We need more like you to stand up and be counted but for now, you alone made a huge impact on me and a bunch of others. God bless you.

IMPRIMIS, the source of this piece by Pat Sajak, is a free newsletter from Hillsdale College. Every issue has an excellent piece by a leading conservative, often a speech from one of their events. I consider it must-reading.

I always liked Pat, because my wife got on the show and won us a trip to Australia 15 years ago. Here's a great reason to like him more.

Thank you for sharing that. My Mom and Dad have always been fans of the Wheel. They're now in their eighties and I hope I can be with them in the end as you were with your Mom. I feel even more devotion to our Mr. Sajak as a result of reading your warm story.

Almost unbelievably wonderful to read!

it's the phenomenon that allows movie studios and television networks to program with an utter disregard for your kids and your communities. It's not that they're evil people. They have kids and they care about them. But they see no connection between what they do and the results of what they do. And, besides, you're not really families and communities. You're ratings, demographics and sales.

Yes. Yes. Yes x infinity.

You will have spent these formative years in a setting where ideas can be discussed and treated with respect

What a novel notion. Heartland of America ideas ... treated with respect.

A few years ago, Pat Sajak was in New Orleans (I think "Wheel of Fortune" was doing that "on the road" thing at the time). The local newspaper had a journalist call him up for one of those "Sixty-Second Interviews", literally a list of "favorite color, favorite singer" type questions - really useless fluff to fill a single column for about two inches.

When asked what his favorite book was, Pat answered: "Atlas Shrugged".

Yeah, Baldwin is off the hook for suggesting stoning not shooting......(/sarcasm off).

C'mon...It's kinda like Clinton's lawyers arguing that he shouldn't be impeached because he's not a liar, he's just delusional. :)

Check the records of the House Impeachment inquiry. His lawyers actually argued that he had his own reality so he couldn't have been lying.

What is the difference?????

A technicality that doesn't really help, if one is paying attention.

BRILLIANT, INSIGHTFUL COMMENTARY by Mr. Sajak.

I think what Sajak said in that speech boils down to this: most of the entertainment industry lives such a cloistered life that they do not understand the concerns of the average American. Think about it: the more famous people in the entertainment industry live in big, heavily guarded mansions and often do not interact with the general public except in highly controlled situations. They frequently travel on private jets far beyond the throng of commercial airports and go on vacation in places where either other famous celebrities live or in very exclusive, out-of-the-way places far from the prying eyes of the public (at resorts that charge US$8,000 to US$10,000 per night).

Sajak's mention of the late Pauline Kael and her reaction to the loss of George McGovern in 1972 brilliantly emphasizes this point. Kael was so used to dealing with the people in the movie industry and their liberal views that she no longer understood the views of the vast majority of Americans.

I think it is time that the celebrities of the entertainment industry ditch the PR handlers in the large entertainment companies and take a look real carefully at what concerns the average American citizen.

More likely the entertainment industry does not give a hoot about what the average American thinks or is concerned about.
