Note the nature of the experiment that was set up. It was an evolutionary competition. The winner evolved a different, less prosaic strategy. A "cheating" strategy.

The people who claim it means nothing when this happens will in other contexts claim that there are conservation laws for information and nothing like this can ever happen.
