A question that was just posed to Donald Rumsfeld from one of the pool reporter's there at the Pentagon was "What proof do you have that Saddam is developing or has nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction?"
Rumsfeld-"That case will be made in the next couple of days and weeks for everyone to see"
Now between this comment that he just said and what Tony Blair said this morning....does it appear to all of you that game is on in the coming weeks for real?

Looks like the vacation is over and now they are going to lay the case out to the nation and world. Rumsfeld ignoring Iraq's offer for weapons inspection. Calling it the dance.

The President will be addressing the United Nations on September 12, 2002. He's expected to talk about Iraq.

I expect the next two weeks could be very, very interesting. < /potential understatement of the year>

They both used the word "developing" which to me implies that Iraq doesn't yet have anything that can go boom.
That's thin ice for me to stand on, I know, but I'm still torked that LBJ used a phony Tonkin Gulf incident to escalate Viet Nam.
I guess I'll never trust our power elite.

Would it make you feel better if Iraq HAD them already?
To: AzJP
Also, George W. Bush is not the scumbag LBJ.

I watched it on Fox News. I'm waiting to be convinced. I have no opinion as of now.

I expect the next two weeks could be very, very interesting. My guess is that we would rather not go to war with Iraq in mid-September, and that this stuff is basically an attempt to rachet up the pressure on Saddam, personally.
Notice, for example, that the rhetoric is not so much about war, as it is about getting rid of Saddam. To me this sounds like we're trying to get the Iraqi military to mount a coup.
(One wonders if Abu Nidal's recent "suicide" has any relation to this effort....)
It may not work, of course. But it'd be November or later before we did anything overt.

I heard Rumsfeld's comments on C-SPAN and it sounded like the administration will be making its case against Iraq in the congressional hearings over the next few weeks. Like you, it looks like PM Blair will do the same on his side of the pond.

I caught that too. Hope Saddamn did as well.

HAD them, probably not. I'd add that to my concern of Pakistan, India, Iran, who-knows-whom in what used to be Russia, etc.

He's expected to talk about Iraq. Here's hoping it's a history lesson.

Also, George W. Bush is not the scumbag LBJ. Calling LBJ a scumbag is an insult to scumbags.
To: ItisaReligionofPeace
That's true, and I have higher ethical opinion of Bush over Gore, also, but after some of what George The Younger has done, I remember the old Kingston Trio song that had a verse: "...and I don't trust anyone very much!"
