Electric Kool-Aid was kind of a journal of the era. Like Kerouac's On the Road was for an earlier generation. There was linkage, too.
It's about time for another such journal.

Aye don't bring goddamn hippies on Freerepublic. They don't have jobs or take showers. LOL :).

Hopefully this message will carry across the Cyberspace ether and reach Mountain Girl, Ken Babbs, Gretchen Fetchen, Owsley, The Hermit, George Walker, Hugh Romney, Norman Hartweg, Hagen, Doris Delay, Zonker, Black Maria, etc.. I will add more later, but I belives (I like typols)Owsley's first name was Stanley, we all know what his job was rite?
Hugh Romney is Wavy Gravy (you saw him in the orange jump suit at Woodstock) and I repossesed a bed from Babbs and Gretchen...
Also there was a guy on the bus called cool breeze...they said he got kicked in the head by a mule...

When all the Hippies started leaving The Haight I swear most of them came to Humboldt County in those old buses. There are probably 500 of them lost in the woods of the Emerald Triangle. I saw one 3 months ago trying to get brake work done so she could drive it to New York. It had the clasic VW bus penthouse

Thanks for the invite, let me go dust off my copy!

Oh wouldn't that be a really neat birthday present for me if "The Merry Pranksters" did appear.
To: PJ-Comix
Well here's Kesey's own
website (run in conjunction with his kids now).
I believe that they can contact Mountain Girl, Ken Babba, etc.

Does this include such associates of Ken Kesey as Larry MacMurtry?

I missed the reading assignment, teach! I read this book over 4 years ago and by coincidence have been reading One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for the first time.
Videos of Kesey's films are being released, I wonder how much (if any) of that material Tom Wolfe viewed while he was writing the book.
There are also some interesting recordings of Neal Cassidy behind the wheel shifting gears (physically and mentally), talking non-stop.

Why?
Kesey's dead for one. He'd hate FR.
Ken Babbs is still around I think.
Wavy Gravy danced around when Clinton won holding a picture of ol Bill with a beard in the 60's and a caption reading, "my president", or some such.
That's your merry prankster.
Do a seance with Neal Cassidy, that'd be better.
To: PJ-Comix
I still don't know why you'd want to do this.
I came to FR to get away from this sort of hippy dippy liberal claptrap that is the establishment where I come from.
To: PJ-Comix
I don't think he was a Prankster, but John Perry Barlow, lyricist who worked extensively with Bob Weir, is a leader in the Electronic Frontier Foundation - Libertarian watchdog group working to preserve our online freedoms.
Anyone know how Barlow got hooked up with the Grateful Dead scene?
To: PJ-Comix
Buncha damn, dope-smoking hippies. FR doesn't need this crap. What's your point with all this?
I read Electric Kool-Aid and other such books - Fear and Loathing, On the Road, all that stupid hippie crap when I was a dope-smoking, greenpeace, tree-huggin', pro-choice, nuclear freeze supporting registered Democrat liberal idiot. I threw all that crap away when I saw the error of my ways and the misguided idealogy that was ruining my life and destroying our nation. Why ever would a conservative be promoting such garbage?

Any plans to read The Pump House Gang as well (there is some crossover between the people mentioned).
There is a passage that deals with the Hell's Angels that is also included in Hunter Thompson's Hell's Angels book.

I take it that the actual book discussion thread will be a separate thread.
Any significance behind the September 9th date?

Here is a
link to the McDonald Theatre owned and operated by the Kesey clan.
I was at Ken's home in Pleasant Hill the past two New Year days. I know the Prankster set, and they are a big part of the Eugene, Oregon cultural scene.
Here is Eugene.com if you are looking for a general Eugene, Oregon link as a place to start searching for anyone else who might be able to help you in your quest.
