The Alaska quake of 64 caused a tsunami in Crescent City CA. Several people died there. Professor Lori Dengler of HSU has a traveling geological display she sets up at fairs and schools. She has two core samples from the marsh south of CC, one showing the sediment of 64 of about 2 inches while the second is about 6 inches and is dated to the 1799 quake that caused destruction around the Pacific Rim. It also caused subsidence along the coast from N Cal north that buried forest standing up. This quake is related in many Indian tales. Lori Dengler is a leading scienctist on quakes and is referenced many times on a google seach

Builders have always had to take into consideration earthquake faults when planning a development and now they must study the effects of a tsunami on the project..

I have a book called 'Crescent City's Dark Disaster' which has a lot of first hand accounts and photographs of the tsunami aftermath.
There is a 25 ton 'tetrapod' in town and the wave actually moved it about a foot or so off it's base.
Cars are piled on top of each other and homes were rearranged to face different directions.
I got the book from:

'The Bookcomber'
299 'I' St., Suite 5
Crescent City, CA 95531
707-464-5811

I'm thinking the store is still there as I got the book in 1995. $15 + shipping.
