WASHINGTON -- At the end of last summer, one of the Bush administration's major initiatives was amnesty for Mexican illegal immigrants in the United States. The presidents of America and Mexico seemed all but in love, and borders appeared about to dissolve.
Now, a year later--after the shocks of Sept. 11 and the war on terrorism--where does the question of the mammoth Mexican immigration to the United States stand? How can Americans understand the character and threat (and, sometimes, blessing) of such an unprecedented new invasion?

That's very dissappointing. Is there anything else planned to help control the border?

"Is there anything else planned to help control the border?" Yeah, I heard Bush is going to double the number of orange cones on the borders over the next two years.
"Make no mistake about it!" "Help is on the way!" :(

The problem as we know, is that middle America has felt little impact from the Mexican/Third-World illegal/legal invasion. Little do they know what is transpiring while they as American citizens are struggling to pay for their outrageously high health insurance premiums, taxes, and day-to-day essentials...
In New Jersey, a regional Director of Human Services here has purplexingly been told by the 'powers-that-be' to merely "give them [illegal immigrants] whatever they need" -- NO questions asked. Seems the "invaders" have obviously infested our government.
Now aren't you all glad the state and federal government gives YOU as Americans such a hard time when YOU try to collect unemployment insurance, catch a break on your taxes, or gain a helping hand in trying to help you kid get some tuition help?

I don't think she's nuts, she's just a damned traitor. Calling her nuts is cutting her way too much slack.

If people knew what kind of life there was over there ---just across the border, they would not be in favor of open borders and unlimited immigration from such a country.

Sad but true. It's the same here in AZ.
