LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The former commander of the Kentucky State Militia was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison Thursday on federal weapons charges. Charles N. Puckett, 55, pleaded guilty in May to two weapons charges and one count of intimidating a witness. Eight charges involving guns, pipe bombs and almost 35,000 rounds of ammunition were dropped.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms seized guns and other weapons from Puckett's home in November. Authorities alleged Puckett was barred from owning the weapons because of a previous felony conviction.
Puckett initially argued the 1968 law prohibiting felons from owning guns does not apply to him because he was convicted of the felony two years before the law's enactment.
Puckett was put under house arrest, but officials said he slipped out of an electronic monitoring bracelet and fled. He turned himself in to authorities in April.

Ordinary citizens don't keep pipe bombs and 35,000 rounds of ammunition in their houses.
The 35,000 rounds of ammo don't phase me a bit. If he actually had assembled pipe bombs, then that would be another thing. But we should all note, the article says that the pipe bomb charges were dropped. They were obviously desperate to get him on a plea bargain agreement which they did. There were some charges used as leverage. If he had assembled pipe bombs in his possession, then don't you think the government would be remiss for plea bargaining that away? I do.
There are too many citizen-zombies in this country who don't question the government. The BATF is not exactly an agency with a reputation of honesty. The BATF is fully capable of planting evidence and lying about it. The government has been making BATF grow faster than any federal law enforcement agency by far since ghw bush took over in 89 despite the fact that since then they've been involved in a bunch of very bad incidents. These people are the law if you catch the meaning.
There are a bunch of gun people who've been put in jail on either extremely flimsy reason or completely bogus. The BATF has also been involved in a dozen at least horror stories that I've read about.
I was commenting on the statement that was made about "ordinary citizens", and I repeat that ordinary citizens don't keep 35,000 rounds of ammo or pipe bombs in their houses. Personally, I don't give a sh** what you've got in your house, but if you've got enough firepower to outfit a platoon in there, you're not an "ordinary citizen".
What do you stockpile, Wimpy, toilet paper, canned food, motor fuel? I keep over a thousand galons of gas and diesel, I have not conducted an inventory but keep several rounds of ammunition and considerable reloading supplies. In winter, I am prone to keep more food than some. I am not so different from the farmer down the road from me but I ask, who made you the decider of what an "ordinary citizen" is like? You sound like a damn NAZI.
Those who cheer puckett's demise are just getting on the bandwagon of evil just like some germans did in the 1930's. We americans are learning the hard way that we as a nation are no better than germany.
Just a reminder; U.S. gun laws are based on Nazi gun confiscation laws.

How very ironic. I remember the Nazis. Let me share a little about them and recall some of their exploits.
First of all, "Nazi" was gutter slang for the verb "to nationalize". The Bider-Mienhoff gang gave themselves this moniker during their early struggles. The official title of the Nazi Party was "The National Socialist Workers Party of Germany". Hitler and the Brownshirts advocated the nationalization of education, health care, transportation, national resources, manufacturing, distribution and law enforcement. [Homeland Security?]
Hitler came to power by turning the working class, unemployed, and academic elite against the conservative republic. After Der Fuhrer's election ceased being a political conspiracy and was transformed into a fashionable social phenomenon, party membership was especially popular with educators, bureaucrats, and the press. Being a Nazi was "politically correct" ["patriotic"]. They called themselves "The Children of the New Age of World Order" and looked down their noses at everyone else. As Hitler acquired more power, he referred to his critics as "The Dark Forces of Anarchy and Hatred". [Axis of evil?] Anyone who questioned Nazi high-handedness in the German press was branded a "Conservative Reactionary" ["domestic terrahrist"]. Joseph Goebbels, minister of communications, proclaimed a "New World Order". The Nazi reign of terror began with false news reports on the Jews, Bohemians and Gypses who were said to be arming themselves to overthrow the "New World Order" [see Al-Queda's House of Horrors] and Hitler demanded that all good people register their guns so that they wouldn't fall into the hands of "terrorists and madmen". Right-wing fanatics of the "Old Order" [based on the Constitution, Bill of Rights, limited government, and Judeo-Christian values] who protested firearms registration were arrested by the S.S. and put in jail for "fomenting hatred against the Government of the German people".["Homeland"].
Then the Reichstag (government building) was blown up and Hitler ram-rodded an "Emergency Anti-Terrorist Act" ["Patriot" Act] through Parliament that gave the Gestapo [Homeland Security?] extraordinary powers. The leader then declared that for the well-being of the German people, all private firearms were to be confiscated by the Gestapo and the Wermotten (federal law enforcement and military). German citizens who refused to surrender their guns when the "jack-boots" (Gestapo) came calling, were murdered in their homes. By the way, the Gestapo were the federal marshals' service of the Third Reich. The S.W.A.T. team was invented and perfected by the Gestapo to break into the homes of the enemies of the German people.
When the Policia Bewakken, or local police, refused to take away guns from townsfolk, they themselves were disarmed and dragged out into the street and shot to death by the S.A. and the S.S. Those were Nazi versions of the B.A.T.F. and the F.B.I. When several local ministers spoke out against these atrocities, they were imprisoned and never seen again. The Gestapo began to confiscate and seize the homes, businesses, bank accounts, and personal belongings of wealthy conservative citizens who had prospered in the old Republic. [warrantless searches, asset forfeiture and seizure, condemnation, Medical Emergency Powers Act, etc.]
Pamphleteers who urged revolt against the Nazis were shot on site by national law enforcement and the military. [Photocopying joint now urged to spy on customers and report "suspicious" activity.] Gypsies and Jews were detained and sent to labor camps. Mountain roads throughout central Europe were closed to prevent the escape of fugitives into the wilderness, [Wildlands Project] and to prevent the movement and concealment of partisan resistance fighters. Public schools rewrote history and Hitler youth groups taught the children to report their parents to their teachers for anti-Nazi remarks. Such parents disappeared. Pagan animism became the state religion of the Third Reich and Christians were widely condemned as "right wing fanatics". Millions of books were burned first and then people. Millions of them burned in huge ovens after they were first gassed to death. Unmarried women were paid large sums of money to have babies out of wedlock and then given medals for it. Evil was declared as being good, and good was condemned as being evil. World Order was coming and the German people were going to be the "peacekeepers".
Yes, indeed, I remember the Nazis and they weren't Republicans, or "right wing", or "patriots" or "militias". [Or Democrats, or "left wing", or fill-in-the-blank]. They were Socialist monsters."

What's Next...Concentration Camps?

This is the season of demystification. What people of my generation never understood about the mass delusions of recent history--Nazism, Stalinism, holocaust, genocide, thought crimes, totalitarian spying--is all becoming crystal clear.
We who grew up since the youth and social justice movements of the 1960s used to ask ourselves: How could the intelligentsia in Germany have been so acquiescent in the 1930s? Could Germans really not have known that mass extermination of Jews was under way? Why didn't the Jews fight back? Why did they let themselves be annihilated? Why was there nobody able to pinpoint the precise nature of what was happening, until after it was over? How could these things have happened, and could they ever happen again?
Of course they couldn't happen again! There is no Great Depression now. The world is so much more interconnected, information travels so fast and wide, nothing can remain hidden for too long, there simply isn't the stomach to embark on mass repression and annihilation of entire peoples, the liberal consensus about protecting human rights is too strong, wealth is so spread out that ordinary people put portfolios before pogroms, too many institutionalized liberal barriers exist to counter a dictator making the world over in his brutal image.
This is what some of us continue to believe.
Evidence doesn't matter. What we see and read and hear and intuit as about to happen takes secondary place to what our rational faculties tell us about the nature of the modern world.
