The promise of chastity is not the reason that heterosexual men don't enter the priesthood.
Then why is there always prayer for "vocations"?
I went to Catholic high school (all-boys) and not one person I knew there wanted to become a priest.
The only people of my age that I know even a little bit who entered any sort of ministry were Protestant.
I agree with you, BTW that most priests are not pedophiles, but many priests are (or at least seem) gay. Of all the young (under 45) priests that I've met, if they are from this country, they seem light in the loafers.

"Light in the Loafers" priests... It sort of depends on where they come from; particularly which seminary they went to. We've loads of young priests in Arlington and Washington (dioceses) for the most part they attended seminary at Mt. St. Mary's (Emmettsburg, Md.), St. Charles Borromeo (Philadelphia), or Rome. All those I've met seem "manly" enough. OTOH, I've met some in Richmond (diocese), who attended seminary at St. Mary's in Baltimore who seemed ready to fly away (and theemed to have twouble with the letter "etthhh")...

This is one of the best written arguments in favor of capital punishment I've seen.
He should be fried until he is very well done.

And why can't pigs fly?
Of very little interest and of absolutely no value is the personal experience either you or I or anyone relates concerning anecdotal and highly prejudiced ("are or at least seem gay") speculations ("light in the loafers") about priests they have met.

Then why is there always prayer for "vocations"?Ask God. It was His idea.
Luke 10:1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
There have never been enough of these workers.

My evidence might be anecdotal, but it's not prejudiced. Of ALL (only about 10) of the priests that I have known even slightly over the past 10 years, ALL of the ones under 45 (and this includes two military chaplains), had effiminate traits (lisps, walking, gestures, etc.).
Each military chaplain priest's protestant counterpart was like a 180 degree difference from the priest. (Married, gruff, crusty) It was sort of what I expected a miliarty chaplian to be. The two Catholic chaplains were effeminate an prissy.
Again, my evidence is purely anecdotal, but my impression is that many young priests are gay.

See my post #23.Your post ignores the fact that Episcopal priests have lots of gay priests also even though they can marry. In fact I know a few who were married and got divorced in order to have gay relationships. That pretty much destroys your theory.

"There have never been enough of these workers."
True.
However, when I go to Mass I see many priest imports from Africa. One African priest told me that he worked in Ireland before he came to the states. Imagine the Irish having to import priests because they do not have enough of their own?

I wonder what attracts gays to the Episcopal priesthood?

This article makes me squirm. I just wish I was in Hawaii and able to deliver a personal message to pedophile-at-large Burkholder!
To: jjm2111
Again, my evidence is purely anecdotal, but my impression is that many young priests are gay.So is my evidence, which illustrates the worthlessness of anecdotal evidence. Every single one of the dozens of young priests I've known has been quite masculine and self-confident. Generally well-liked by the ladies, too.

However, there is a huge problem with homosexuals in seminaries...Exactly. When homosexuals are a dominant force in a seminary, the straight guys usually find it unbearable, and leave the seminary and their vocation behind. This is why there is a shortage of good, faithful, chaste priests in this country, and why we have to bring them in from Africa.

"The boys work in the rectory with the priest and you just get friendly. You sit down in the rectory and have a Coke. It's a mutual deal ... an affectionate thing and a friendly thing." Burkholder said the acts, which he repeatedly referred to as "affection," mostly involved the fondling of boys. He said he had occasional oral sex with boys. This is why homosexual priests should NEVER be allowed to be alone with teenage boys. Many of them come from a mindset that there's nothing wrong with sexually abusing a teenage boy to begin with. This man is a selfish monster.
To: ClearCase_guy
If there were no homosexual priests, sexual abuse problems would drop to just about nothing. Either the Catholic Church de-Queerizes itself, or parents will be correct in never trusting a priest with their teenage sons. One or the other. A Church based on fear and distrust, full of homosexual men, or one based on trust, with real men. The Church needs to decide.

Can't we just move on? Not until my Church has rid itself of its strongly Sodomaniacal tendencies.

I wonder what attracts gays to the Episcopal priesthood?Us protestant males are much cuter than catholics.

What is with the parents of these kids who were being molested. Are they so Catholic and so enamored with the priesthood that they would just hand their kids over without question? Do they teach their kids to be so enamored and so in awe of a guy with a collar that the boys just submit? Thank God my parents, although Catholic, had a mind of their own and some sense and used it. In the Church near us, the priest (who anally raped six boys every week for several years), befriended the parents and got them to absolutely trust him. Then, just as the boys came into puberty, the priest started showing them homosexual pornographic videos. Then he told the boys that he would initiate them into manhood - that it was his (the priest's) responsibility to do this - that all boys are so initiated, but that it was considered bad to talk about it. Then he began with the fondling. Then the oral sex. And finally, brutal rape, where he had the kids recite multiplication tables while he raped them in the rear end, week after brutal week. All the while, the boys believed this was normal. They saw the trust and esteem with which their parents held this priest. The parents and the boys were completely betrayed by a monster. We would never allow a priest to be alone with our kids. But into what a moral abyss our Church has fallen, where this has become so obviously true.
To: Steve0113
The queers want pubescent boys. The solution is to get the queers out of the priesthood and seminaries. Either it does so, or it continues as the Church of Sodom.
