Not what I've seen, I've watched on C-span both the VP's(VFW) and Rumsfeld's (camp Pendelton) speeches the last couple of days and there is no doubt in my mind that we will be going in to change some things around over there. Very soon
Yep...MUD
More like a "September Shocker"...
It says a lot for the state of journalism in the U.S. that only foreign outlets (and ordinary people) seem capable of the painstaking research and exhausting exercise of logic required to put two and two together...
My money is on October 5th.
My guess is when we have enough smallpox vaccine stored to cover our entire population - whenever that is! The last I heard we were over half-way there, but that was several weeks ago.
"Thank goodness there's going to be a full moon...
We have to go-it-alone and this thing doesn't even have headlights.

Exactly. I figure itll work something like this.
The Turks are going to contain and hold Northern Iraq, also known as Kurdistan, against any tanks or infantry saddam can dig up and throw to the North. Theyll be supported by the Turkish air force as well as the USAF out of Incirlik AB in southern Turkiya. U.S. Special Forces and Army Mountain troops, supported by the Turks, push to the limit of the Northern No-Fly zone and secure it. This allows the Turks to control Northern Iraq, which will be their buffer zone after the regime change.
At the same time US troops, who just happen to be conveniently located in Jordan as we speak, will move to the Jordanian border to secure and defend, as well as give forward operating locations.
Mean while, the massive Marine invasion, supported by the USAF out of Qatar, hits Iraq from the Persian Gulf, secures Kuwait then moves all the way to the Southern No-Fly zone. Iraq now has No-Fly/No-Enter zones that effectively cut the country into three pieces.
The equipping and training of the Iraqi resistance begins, while saddam whines and cries from Baghdad. Anytime he moves something, the USAF destroys it. Its just a matter of time at this point.
And I think well see it BEFORE October. Only those that never attended jump training in Fort Benning Georgia in the summer would think that its too hot to fight in summer. And for this type of fighting, outside the cities, a huge amount of smart weapons wont be necessary, plain ole dumb bombs work just fine in the desert, so all this we gotta restock the arsenal is just another smoke screen. The democrats wont get their October surprise (itll come before then) and they wont win any seats in the house or senate either, since everyones eyes will be riveted to the happenings in Iraq. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post Reply | Private Reply | To 18 | View Replies

True. He IS known for having a low center of gravitas.
We have enough armor and attack helicopters over there to pretty much destroy anything that gets in the way.
Anything but a Merkava or another Abrams that meets an Abrams on the field is going to die.
Yeah, on or before that date is where my money's placed. Here's the scenario I've been toying with: Bush formally tells Congress next week that we're starting a heavy bombing campaign, but that "significant" (i.e., non-Special Forces) ground troops will not be sent in until Congress gives authorization. That notification triggers the War Powers Act, giving Congress exactly 60 days to make up its mind. Since the election is just over 60 days from next week, Congress would be forced to give a clear "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" on Iraq before the election.
That's the closest thing to a plebiscite our political system allows, and would be a very savvy move on Bush's part. It makes Iraq a campaign issue, without opening Bush to charges of politicking while the troops are in harm's way. And we'll need at least a few weeks of preperatory bombing to pave the way for an invasion in any case, so this plan doesn't compromise any military objectives.
