At 6 am USS Enterprise launched Scouting Six
Also at 6 am the Japanese lanch there aircraft for the attach on Pearl Harbor
At some point one of Scouting Six came in contact with the Japanese before the attack
Pilot Ensign Manuel Gonzales, of Scouting Six, was heard on the radio to say
"Please don't shoot! Don't shoot! This is an American plane."
Moments later, he was heard ordering his Gunner aircrewman Leonard J. Kozelek to bail out: neither man was ever heard from again.
A whole Japanese task force steams within striking distance of Pearl Harbor, launches heavily armed planes, and a few mini subs, loaded with torpedos. It takes them weeks to get into position: the mini subs being launched well ahead of the carrier planes, because of their speed differences.
The author seems to be saying-because we sank one of the attacking subs before the actual bombing started, we started WW II !!!
For those who went to schools that teach about pink triangles but could care less if you know history. On Dec 11 Th. 1937 the Japanese attacked and sank the Gunboat U.S.S. Panay in China on the Yangtze River. And clamed it was mistake.

It doesn't matter. We won, They lost.
The only mistake we made was in not annexing them outright as part of the terms of surrender. Upon attacking us (and losing) they forfeitted any right to existence as a free country. Would have made a couple or three good states.
