He trusts humans so completely that you can raise your arm like you'll strike him and even swing toward him and he won't flinch. He simply cannot imagine a person hitting him.

Same with my Amstaff; in fact, I'm a little worried about how he may react if someone breaks into my home when I'm not there. Hopefully, an intruder will be scared off just by seeing him through my glass front door.

I think their appearance alone tends to work pretty well as a deterrent. I mean, my dog is all muscle, his head is huge, and his bark is really scary, even if it's not backed up with a bite. Your dog would probably start barking if someone tried to break in, and as long as the robber doesn't see too much wagging tail, he'd probably turn tail and run...
