Woman viciously attacked by pitbull; Dog attacked at least three other times

Bakersfield - An Oildale woman wants some answers as to why a vicious dog, with a history of assault wasn't restrained.

Charlotte Reintz says it took just seconds yesterday for a pitbull to attack her.

She says she's traumatized and wonders why something wasn't done about the dog that has apparently attacked, not once, not twice, but at least three previous times.

Reintz was viciously attacked by a pitbull on Belle Avenue in Oildale while walking to a friend's house Sunday.

"I put my shirt out like this and it just started biting my shirt to keep it from biting me any more and it seemed like forever before somebody came out there," said Reintz.

Her piercing screams sent neighbors rushing from their homes to rescue her.

"I got up to see what it was and we brought her here in the yard," said neighbor Kenneth Caudillo. "The guy next door helped get the dog off of her and we helped her call 911."

Neighbors say the traumatic assault should never have happened.

"This animal had a dangerous order placed on it in Sept. of 2001, after a couple of incidents which required the animal to be maintained within its yard on a tether not less than 12 feet," said Steve McCalley of Kern County Environmental Health. "Apparently it has not been maintained consistent with the dangerous order."

Now, Reintz is nursing wounds in her hands, legs, and chest area, but she says her injuries run deep.

Reintz says she can't comment on whether she'll pursue any type of legal action in light of the attack.

The dog will remain under quarantine at the animal shelter pending the outcome of the investigation.

The owner has five business days to appeal the quarantine order before the dog is put down.

Oh, everybody blames the poor pit bulls. Actually, they are great, wonderful doggies. We have our first, and I never want any other type now. And they are much more effective than Bowflex. Simply give your pit one end of a tug toy and then reel him in. Now the other arm. Do ten reps. parsy.

Kool. We have a pit and an Aussie, too. The little Aussie holds her own with him (and must have lost about 10 pounds since we got the pit). She'll grab him by the collar when they are tussling and will corral him when he barks too aggressively at one of us while playing. parsy.

You were supposed to take two blue pills today not two yellow pills.
Run along now, little boy.

Ours are seperated by a week and the Aussie is go,go,go. The Pit is very relaxed compared to her, they grab a toy at each end and here they go, up the stairs, down the stairs, around the chairs. They are pretty dang comical.
The Aussie also likes to play in the water bowl and I do mean play, she'll also get in it and lay down, submerging all except her head.
Damndest thing I ever saw.

Our Aussie was about 6-7 years older than the pit. She was getting fat. Anyway, we got the pit and as he got older he started wearing her out. She lost weight and now can handle him pretty well. Sometimes they will get on opposite ends of a "pit bull tested" toy and go all over the house.

Sometimes the Aussie will outfox the pit and when he is playing too rough with one of us (or we are playing too rough with him), she will grab a sock in her mouth and start teasing him. Naturally, he will go for the sock and everything calms down.

You do know about "pit bull tested", don't you. parsy.

LOL! You know. mrs.parsifal always looks for the "pit bull tested" label on toys at PetSmart etc. Even then, our little boy can still chew through some of them. parsy.

I was at a field trial and a golden in a crate made "Cujo" look like a sissy. Some goldens are severely in-bred, and many times their health and temperment suffer.

So when a Golden acts out there is a ready excuse, well it's just inbreeding don't ya know. These sweet dogs could never do anything bad without a reason.
Go ahead lose a little more credibility.

I currently rent 1/2 of an old house (buying and moving next month!). The renter in the front part of the house has a pit bull. This dog is the most out of control dog I've ever seen. He has literally crashed through windows in the house to get out to attack people, my husband and the mail man included. The mail man has had to mace the dog on several occasions. I, and almost the entire neighborhood, have complained to the landlord on so many occasions I can't even count. All he says is "so what? She pays her rent and that's all I care about".

Everyone in the neighborhood has complained to animal control, to the police and to the mayor. To no avail. They say that until they actually SEE the dog attack someone there is nothing they can do.

This has gone on for 2 years now. The dog's owner does not care. My husband and I bought all the materials and built her a good, strong pen to put the dog in, but she refuses to use it (after agreeing to use it if we built it). I recently found out that there were numerous troubles with her dog at her previous address also.

I guess someone will have to be killed by this dog before anyone will take action. It is clearly written in the state (AND CITY) law that animal control is responsible for enforcing the law in regards to vicious animals, but they refuse to do it.

I have a Carolina Dog. She is one of the best dogs I've ever had (aside from the digging that is part of the breed).

Here in Florida, I spend alot of time at the beach, several allow dogs to run lose. Whenever I see a Pit Bull, or Rottie, I make sure I have my Glock in my fanny pack. There are simply too many hayseeds that deliberately train these animals to be vicious.

Get your .45, you are not above owning a weapon, right?
Blast this dog between the eyes and offer to do same to owner, if she objects.
Please, if the dog is out of control, take matters into your own hands.
If you are not completely comfortable with this, video the dog and show to proper authorities and demand action.

LOL, I did tape the dog, they still didn't care.

I have often contemplated shooting the dog. The thing is, I have dogs too. They are VERY WELL trained and kept under control AT ALL TIMES. Period. However, this woman (and her mother) would most certainly retaliate against me and do something to my dogs. I just can't take that chance, my dogs are almost like my kids. All of this is a big part of the reason we have decided to buy and move 4 years ahead of schedule.

Boy you got that right. In this part of the country we have practical dogs and practical cattle. I prefer my polled herefords over longhorns which can be found here only in zoos. Longhorns breakwindows, feedracks, can't eat side by side, and can't roll over.

My dog, Ranger, collie/white-shepard mix, helps patrol the fence, and if they are out he chases them in. As a bonus he kills racoons, muskrats, mink, weasels, and even skunks when he's in the mood. Extra bonus is he's a good watch dog, even barks at me for about 15 minutes each morning.

Now I know that a pitbull can't match that, but I guess if you're into longhorn bulls you need a pitbull to round it out, but why have one in 'town'?

Your ignorance is showing again.
Do you do any research or just shoot from the lip?
Why don't you do a search on Lyle Lovitt(sp) and see what his polled Charolais did to him and his uncle.
BTW, he had bottle raised the little guy. How many polled herefords you running mate?

Charolais

I went to an auction where they had 2 semi loads of beautiful Charolias shipped in from upper Michigan. They were all so mean, not once did the 'caners' step from behind the 'posts'. I wouldn't have one on a bet. No comparison to Herefords.

I raised Herefords as an enjoyable pass time, to pay the taxes, a little pocket change, and keep the kids busy. The most I wintered over was 22. I was smart enough to have a real job.

Is that the same Lovitt that got tricked into marrying that hollywood star. Says it all, although I like his singing.

We actually started out with Charolais and Longhorns and went fully to Longhorns last winter.
Why do you feel the need to insult my cattle and my choice of dogs?
Does it somehow make you feel better?
If so, fire away and I'll just ignore you from now on.
