God Bless Congressman Dan Burton (R-Indiana), chairman of the Government Reform Committee, who is currently conducting a congressional investigation into the mounting evidence that connects the Oklahoma City bombing with Iraqi sabotage. I am absolutely thrilled that the cacophony of voices, mine among them, begging for a thorough re-evaluation of the Oklahoma City bombing case, has been answered. This probe is absolutely imperative, given the nature of the suppressed materials and new information that has been emerging over the past few years. I have full confidence that Representative Burton, who is every bit a bulldog with a bone, will tenaciously grab hold and explore this controversial matter. There is increasing substantiation that Timothy McVeigh, and his co-conspirator, Terry Nichols did not commit this atrocity alone, but rather acted in tandem with Iraqi agents. "Committee lawyer Marc Chretien interviewed at least six people who claimed to have seen McVeigh keeping company with foreign-looking men in the days, even minutes, before the bombing on April 19, 1995" (James Patterson, The Indianapolis Star).
Part of the account being circulated is as follows: Neither McVeigh nor Nichols knew how to construct a bomb that would bring down the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. However, Nichols, who had a Filipino wife, traveled to the Philippines often and was able to hook-up with Islamic militants, including bomb-maker Ramzi Youssef, a pivotal character who was subsequently convicted of involvement with the1993 Twin Towers bombing. Reportedly, it was Youssef, a known Iraqi agent, that taught Nichols how to make a powerful fertilizer-type bomb. Pursuant to an account in the 4/15/02 edition of Insight Magazine, McVeigh's defense attorney, Stephen Jones, stated: "We went to the Philippines four times to investigate Terry Nichols' meetings with Ramzi Youssef and other known terrorists." Based on what he ascertained, Jones believes there is a "prima facie" case for Iraqi involvement in the Oklahoma City bombing. Interestingly, there were also reports that McVeigh was found to have Iraqi telephone numbers in his possession when he was apprehended by police.
The Oklahoma City bombing did not occur in a vacuum. In fact, about six weeks prior, a warning had been disseminated by the Feds that a "fatwa" had been issued (by Muslim clerics) ordering Islamic extremists to carry out terrorist strikes against Federal targets. Jayna Davis, a TV investigative reporter with NBC affiliate KFOR in Oklahoma City, came to believe that McVeigh and Nichols were associated with a local Jihad cell. She also garnered 22 eyewitness affidavits linking McVeigh and Nichols to several Middle Eastern men in the area, valuable information that the FBI refused to incorporate into their investigation.
Moreover, "Davis nailed down eyewitnesses who had put disgruntled Gulf-War veteran McVeigh in a tavern drinking beer four days before the blast with a former Gulf-War Iraqi soldier who worked for a property company" (James Patterson, The Indianapolis Star). Interestingly, just after the attack on the Murrah Building, an all points bulletin was issued for a "John Doe Number Two", who Davis believes was a former Iraqi soldier granted asylum here after the Gulf-War. Nothing ever became of that bulletin.
Respected individuals have led credence to the theory that Iraqi agents were involved in the Oklahoma City bombing, including attorney David Schippers, a well-known lawyer associated with the Clinton impeachment effort, and Larry Johnson, a former high level administrator with the State Department's Office of Counter-Terrorism. Moreover, a civil lawsuit is now pending, filed by the Judicial Watch organization, which indicates that: "Plaintiffs assert that the entire plot was, in whole or part, orchestrated, assisted technically and/or financially, and directly aided by agents of the Republic of Iraq". Judicial Watch also indicated that Interpol had linked Ramzi Youssef to the Oklahoma City bombing, as well.
From the get-go, it appears that the incredibly partisan Reno Justice Department purposely chose to ignore vital information that linked McVeigh and Nichols to foreign elements. It was much more advantageous for the Democrats to represent the Oklahoma City bombing as a purely domestic crime, perpetrated by so-called Right-wing extremists and malcontents. This was egregious demonization for political purposes, blaming the Conservatives movement that was a significant force to be reckoned with in Congress. Pursuant to his conniving ways, President Clinton was clearly looking for a political stick to beat the GOP about the head after they captured Congress in 1994.
In an editorial from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, it was stated by Ralph R. Reiland, Professor at Robert Morris University, that: "he (Clinton) pointed to 'hate-talk radio' as the culprit, the 'purveyors of hate and division' who 'leave the impression, by their very words, that violence is acceptable'. The enemy, in short, was Rush Limbaugh, not Ramzi Youssef". And there are similar sentiments reflected by political pundit Ann Coulter, in her book "Slander: Liberal Lies About The American Right", as she espoused: "When impeached former president Bill Clinton identified Rush Limbaugh as the cause of the Oklahoma City bombing, he unleashed all the typical liberal curse words for conservatives. He blamed 'loud and angry voices' heard 'over the airwaves in America' that were making people 'paranoid' and spreading hate" (pages 92-93).
It's almost laughable to think that the Liberals tried to place the blame of the Oklahoma City bombing on the Conservative movement. Mainstream Conservatives hold terrific core values such as belief in tax cutting, smaller, more efficient government, school vouchers, a strong, modern military, and support of Israel as the only real democracy in the Middle East. Or shall we blame the "hard-right" faction, comprised of both the Buchanan Brigade and the Libertarians that are largely "antiwar" isolationists types? Preposterous! The truth is that Liberal besmirchment of the various stripes of Conservatism, whether "mainstream" or "hard-right", is just plain silly and erroneous. In fact, no factions within the Conservative movement have ever advocated any type of violence against the Federal government. What Conservatives have underscored is the need to rein in the size and scope of government. There is nothing hateful about discussing flaws within the system. And the Conservatives are entitled to free-speech, just like any other group.
In actuality, extremists in America run the gambit from Right to Left in terms of ideology, from Neo-Nazi/Aryan Nation types to adherents of the FALN (a violent Puerto Rican nationalist group) and the radical pro-environmental movement. These Neo-Nazi/Aryan Nation crazies, which have no connection whatsoever with the Conservative movement, actually dovetail quite nicely with some elements of the fanatical Left such as the hard- core "Pro-Palestinian", "Anti-Globalization" and "Green" movements, and their inclination toward violence (as seen at various demonstrations including the protestation in Seattle against the World Trade Organization). There is a saying that the ultra-fringe Right and the ultra-fringe Left eventually converge, and I believe there is quite a bit of truth in those words. Where that Right/Left confluence takes place, you find the Anarchists bent on violence and destruction.
McVeigh appears to be somewhat of an anomaly who does not fall into any identifiable extremist group. Although McVeigh did indeed reference his outrage at the Branch Davidian "Waco" deaths, he also compared the Gulf War bombing of Iraq to his actions at Oklahoma City, certainly a strange juxtaposition of ideas. If he is amenable, imprisoned co-conspirator Terry Nichols might be able to shed further light on the events that led up to that horrific event in Oklahoma City, and the underlying motivation for their actions.
Lastly, if Congressman Burton is able to establish that Saddam Hussein's agents aided and abetted in the Oklahoma City bombing, which caused 168 deaths, does that, in fact, represent an incontrovertible "casus belli", a clear-cut justification for war?
Since the FBI would have to come up with the evidence that would prove Iraqi involvement this will not happen.
Stay well - Stay safe - stay armed - Yorktown
What irks me is that people on this forum have been saying for a long time that there was Iraqi involvement at the highest level, and they were spurned as "tinfoil hat people". But let Dan Burton say the same thing, and the support comes out of the woodwork. ...Amazing, but predictable.
Party loyalists who place that loyalty ahead of the constitutional guarantees that this country was founded on, deserve exactly what they are going to get. Wallace was EXACTLY right. "There's not a dimes worth of difference between republicans and democrats. ...They all have the same ultimate agenda. ...The few members of each party who don't, are not privy to anything and wield no power.
My wife and I street-demonstrated here in LA for Dubya during the Florida election debacle, though I would say too, in the words of the elder Bush: "Let the chips fall where they may."
Not logic, Gopblond,...just facts. Until people like you pull their head from their 4th point of contact, these treasonous crimes will never come to full light. ...but in the meantime, feel free to worship at the alter of your party.
