McKinney Contemplating Run For Georgia US Senate Seat

(CNSNews.com) - Only days after losing the Democratic nomination for another term in the U.S. House, Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is already said to be considering a run for the U.S. Senate in 2004.

If she did run for the Senate, McKinney would presumably challenge Democratic incumbent Zell Miller, who earlier this year called McKinney's comments about the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks "loony."

McKinney last week lost the Democratic primary in Georgia's 4th District to state court judge Denise Majette. McKinney drew heavy support from the Muslim community, but could not overcome a determined Republican bid to oust her. Thousands of Republicans crossed over and voted for Majette in the Democratic primary, adding to Majette's considerable support from Jewish voters.

A statement on McKinney's website indicates that, "Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is going through all the letters and e-mails asking her to continue the struggle, to run again, to run for the U.S. Senate." The website promises that McKinney will soon announce her future plans.

McKinney drew criticism after she suggested the Bush administration ignored warnings about Sept. 11 in order for the president's big business friends to benefit from the war against terrorism.

She also said she would have accepted a $10 million check from a Saudi prince for the Sept. 11 victims. New York officials rejected that check after the prince suggested that U.S. policies toward the Middle East were partly to blame for the September attacks.

In 1992, McKinney became the first African-American woman from Georgia to be elected to the House. She had previously served two terms in the Georgia state legislature.

In her concession speech last week, McKinney said she is not leaving politics or the public arena completely.

"I have lost an election, but I maintain my spirit, my courage, my dignity and my commitment to the truth, to peace and to the future. There is still work to be done, God had a plan and God is not finished with me yet," she said.

But she also said she would finish her dissertation for her doctorate in international affairs and devote more time to her teenage son.

Her father, Georgia Democratic State Representative Billy McKinney, told an Atlanta television station, the reason his daughter lost her seat was because of "J-E-W-S."

The elder McKinney did not return phone calls on Monday seeking comment on a possible Senate race for his daughter.

Why not? Is she actually qualified for a job in the private sector?

Hey, Cynthia, why not run as Reverend Al's VP.?

Better yet, she can be Rev. Al's crack ho. Street walking in DC, along with her peers.

How delusional can you get.

God has about as much to do with your race-baiting, hate mongering and political smear tactics as He does with your fanatical Muslim supporters blowing up innocent families in restuarants.

You are a seriously deranged woman, and we can all thank God you and your sick politics were kicked to the curb last week.

Oh to be a fly on the wall at that defense!!! She has proven to be such an intellectual flyweight! Of course, the J-E-W-S will probably be blamed if she doesn't get her doctorate! I wonder if there will be any questions on interstellar affairs, such as "where did man land on Mars?"

The old joke about the meaning of the letters in Ph.D., Piled Higher and Deeper, really apply here!

Big irony: If she runs for the Senate, she will probably win a lot of crossover votes from Republicans.

I must note here too, that the notice at top of Ms McKinney's website about the US Senate, is nonsensical if it means only that she might become a candidate in 2004 or later year, for some seat in Ga or elsewhere that might become open, etc.

[So might ANYBODY, why say anything?]

This note only becomes meaningful, if it means she is thinking of running as a write-in in THIS year's Senate race, the one between Max Cleland and Saxby Chambliss.

Republicans wouldn't cross over to vote for her given she runs for the senate. Crossing over would actually hurt Republicans, as it would help elect a more viable Democrat (if you can believe that) to run in the general election. Allow McKinney to win the Democrat nomination (though I don't think that she'd win that, either). If she were to run in the general election for senate, she'd loose big time.

Dear Lord... please let her run....
I think it would be hilarious for her to run again. We should get behind her... encourage the young ms.

Does anybody believe she would actually win as a Senatorial Candidate?
Can you imagine her mouth running during a three week "filibuster" or in her case a "fullabullshirt"....

I actually think it would be fun, I think she would lose, and if she actually got in, she would totally polarize the senate, and all the white southern dems would vote along with conservatives while hilly's minority coalition would fail to block cloture on eveyr issue we brought to the table.

Talk about adding a lot of color to the Senate!!!

beam me up scotty!

Didn't you know? It has been alleged that He cheated His way through, plagiarizing His dissertation from a man named Walter Marshall Horton. Some people have wondered why He did not lose His degree posthumously and was not relegated to the dust-bin containing academic thieves from throughout history (It calls into question, among other things, whether or not He wrote the "I have a dream" speech). All that said, it is better to err on the side of remembering a martyr's good points than dwelling on his possible shortcomings. Rest in Peace, Dr. King.

One aspect of doctorates: the weaker the degree, the likelier the recipient is to insist on being called "doctor." Also, the showier the academic garb associated with it. For instance, the highly coveted EdD and DMin degrees (heavy sarcasm) have aqua blue and scarlet as their colors, respectively, while the PhD has a more subdued royal blue. Funny thing, though - no matter how careful one tries to be in categorizing doctoral degrees - it turns out that there are both genuises and idiots, as well as a lot of ordinary people, representing each one.

Come to think of it, please disregard anything I've said in this post.

Just like her daddy the 75 year old hack. She is a dim bulb unemployable.

Well look on the bright side, as an isolated and ignored Congresswoman, her ability to damage the real economy was limited. Imagine what problems she could inflict if she worked in, say, a car factory.

After a few SUV's she put together blew up it would be hello, recalls...and an automaker might go out of business. Same for anything else she might try her hand at.

Really she should come with a warning label.

Regards, Ivan

That was my point. If she runs for the Senate, Republicans desperately want her to win the Dem nomination. It would be a big win in November for the pubbies.
