The one thing that could have gotten the author in trouble is justing wounding his would be mugger. If he would have missed his leg he might have had a different outcome.

Rule #1 - Never aim a gun at something you don't intend to shoot.

Rule #2 - Never shoot at anything you don't intend to kill.

Rule #3 - Aim for the torso it's the biggest target.

The 2 rules I was taught when I was 10 (I did grow up in Los Angeles) were:

#1: There is no such thing as an unloaded gun.

#2: Never point it at anything that you don't intend to kill.

Certainly. He would have fired the other 7-9 rounds into the muggers chest I think. Or perhaps he would have sprayed the whole gang while running.

It occurred to me that the account might have been "edited". Readers still do not know "exactly" where the bullet hit. And I am not asking any questions about it.
