You have placed your finger squarely on the source of the problem! I have tried explaining to a few people recently that this nation is not and was never supposed to be a Democracy and with rare exception I get a reaction similiar to what I might expect if I said I had been abducted by alien beings. Most people have no inkling of the difference between a Democracy and a Republic and have no intention of learning any better.
