Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

"It also means massive losses for agriculture, big-time deforestation problems..."

Hmmm. Then the best thing we can do is try to get our global CO2 level as high as we can. The higher the CO2 the faster and healthier our agriculture grows. Also needs far less water, which helps with the need for water.

The theory is reasonable. The Gulf Stream only flows so long as it is salty enough so that it sinks when cooled, and then flows south along the Atlantic Ocean floor. Too much fresh water, as when glacial lakes suddenly started to drain east via the St Lawrence gulf instead of south via the rivers, dilutes the Gulf Stream and shuts it off. I would expect the effect on Europe to be much greater than the eastern US, since Europe is so much farther north. Note that Lisbon is straight east of New York.

I'm not sure whether the shutting down of the Gulf Stream by itself causes a new Ice Age. One conjecture is that during an Ice Age, the Arctic Ocean must be ice free. This allows evaporation from its surface, so that prevailing winds can carry the moisture south over Canada and Europe where it snows heavily. Currently, the Canadian north recieves very little precipitation. It's roughly like the desert areas of the US southwest, except that the cold temperatures prevent evaporation. For glaciers to form, it is only necessary that more snow falls in the winters than melts in the summers; not that it be particularly cold.

Discover is a Disney product and degenerated into unbelieveablity. They publish only the party (DNC) line. They sometimes print an article arguing the other side, but always trash the scientists involved.

They are going broke also. There advertising....number of add pages has decreased to very few.

Discover is like Time or Newsweek or any of the other leftist publications. They exist to propagandize.
