FREEPER SIGN MAKES THE SLIMES
I was ready to burn today's Slimes for ignoring Bush's visit. Then I finally remembered that their news coverage rarely begins before A10 and started flipping through the center pages. Finally, at A19:
(an excerpt, obviously... my notes in red)
Bush Ends His Fund-Raising Tour
By Edward Chen and Mark Z. Barabak
LAS CRUCES, N.M.(?) -- Dogged by small but hearty bands of protesters, President Bush on Saturday wrapped up three days of fund-raising in the West that brought in millions of dollars for Republicans, including more than $2.5 million for Bill Simon Jr., the GOP gubernatorial candidate in California.
Before leaving California, the president spoke at a breakfast for Simon in West Los Angeles, his third fund-raiding appearance for the beleagured (especially by us) nominee since arriving in the state Friday morning.
As his motorcade arrived for the fundraiser, it was greeted by several hundred jeering protesters corralled on the sidewalks at the intersection of Westwood and Santa Monica boulevards. (It's Westwood and Wilshire Blvds., but facts never get in the way for the Slimes.)
Shouting through bullhorns and pounding on drums, some demonstrators waved signs that read: "No War for Oil", "Stop Bush" and "Bush and Simon, Corporate Crooks."
But there also were a few pro-Bush signs, with one reading: "Luvya Dubya".
;^)
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Thanks for the info dfu. I had a feeling those commie rat bast**ds were bussed in with their pro-signage!

Three lines devoted to the anti Bush protest, one devoted to us! We were outnumbered 30 to 1 and we garnered
33% of the publicity!
From a business standpoint, this was an excellent investment!

Way to go, AnnaZ!!!FWIW, you also made the Salt Lake Tribune
This development, however, casts SERIOUS doubt upon the "Lone Bush Supporter" theory - unless you and "Melrose" Larry are one in the same.
Come to think of it, I never HAVE seen to two of you together anywhere... :)

Then she lowered them and used one hand to shove the bullhorn into my face cutting my lip."Just ice" for that cut, now.
You're a wonder, Sir, with much more patience than I would've possessed in the same situation.
Maybe you should've allowed her to use your bullhorn for a while. The "justling of the crowd" might've caused the same thing to happen to her.
One was a 5'6" female black who probably weighted in excess of 150.
An obvious animal rights activist. Save the whales!

My apologies for not being there with "The Few, The Proud, The Los Angeles Freepers".
I'm afraid that I only heard about the event when DFU was on the Al Rantel
Show (Fri. night, I think).
But I plead my excuse for being absent due to healing from a minor bone fracture
(sorry, no good story of how I broke a leg bone due to extreme sports...just a minor
idiopathic fracture according to the M.D.s, but I'm healing nicely).
And I had a professional appointment for 7:30 AM prior to hearing DFU...but I did see the
great unwashed masses at Wilshire and Westwood when I road the Santa Monica Big Blue
Bus to my appointment.
Sad...what a sea of foolishness.
If it's any consolation, I got to overhear a liberal colleague (a good, but misguided
person) saying that a relative was greatly inconvenienced by the traffic snarl due to the protests
and the Presidential motorcade.
Somehow I restained myself from saying that it was just about the same mess
that we had at Wilshire and Westwood everytime Bubba Clinton came to town
to raise $$$ and to probably shag another starlet.

Thanks for including a photo of the LAPD (I presume) officers keeping the peace.
As much as the LAPD and other law enforcement officers get drubbed,
I've really appreciated the officers that manage to keep things on an even keel
at these massive street protests in Los Angeles.
As much as I may disagree with "the loyal opposition", I am glad I'm in a country where
it's usually words, not fists and bullets that get thrown around at these events.

You should have been there to listen to some of these people damn the US for it's war on the Taliban. If you think that sign was off base, you should rethink your position.

I felt bad for them. The opposition was encouraging people to break the law and disobey the police.
At one point, the police did not want people crossing the street because Bush was driving up and pulling into the parking lot. The leftists were saying "Don't listen to them! Cross the street."
These people are barbarians.

That's too bad.
When we had the demonstration at the Federal Building during the Presidential
election imbroglio of 2000, at least the opposition was well-intended, even if totally
misguided.
Even if we had a few tense "confrontation" moments, things were quickly resolved.
We did always make a point to think the officers (LAPD and I think some Federals)
and pick up the mess (no matter who made it) when we left.
For the cops on the frontline, they just don't get paid enough.

To AnnaZ and all who were there: God bless you, and thank you from me for standing / speaking out there, and for being informed and wise.

Thanks for the good thoughts. For "the big city", folks have been very kind.
I'll be back in good form in a couple of weeks.
From my experience, I will pass along this advise to my fellow baby-boomers.
1. Keep consuming dairy products.
2. Take a calcium supplement (e.g., Citrical + Vitamin D)and a good multivitamin daily.
3. Keep consumption of caffeine moderate (to make
sure peripheral circulation is good).
4. Keep the weight moderate.
5. AND, if you feel a pain (slightly throbbing) in your foot for a day or two,
it won't hurt to go easy and see a doctor. I had this forewarning and even though
I went easy, my metatarsal still broke.
But, despite all this advice, the doctors said "these fractures happen for all reasons and none".
And I've met three people in the past month that have had the same thing happen.
