I have no idea where they were from (prolly Ashland) but they were distinctly NOT Medfordites. They were dressed in baggie "hippie" clothes, most had dreadlocks, the girls all looked like lesbians, (there were quite a few walking around holding hands) and the signs were all done by the same people, using the same terminology, drawn the same, etc. One creep had a sign that said "F**K Bush" I told him to take it down, he did, but then gave it to someone else, who put it back up.
There were threee women walking around with no shirts, just bras, and the words "Bomb Iraq With These" drawn across their breasts. My friend Jerry said to one of them "You're gonna need bigger bombs than THOSE!" Heh heh heh...
There were some exceptions. There were about three guys (protestors) who looked like clean-cut military types, who were speaking rationally to the crowd and seemed to be thoughtful about logging, but when pressed for specifics, always reverted to extremism. i.e. "I support thinning to prevent fires" "what about salvage logging in the Kalmiopsis?" "Why no, you can't log in a wilderness area, and the fire didn't really destroy it, go back next year, it'll all be lush and green again."
There was a guy with a huge sign (at the Expo, not the airport) that said "Killing Hussein and stealing his oil is not an energy policy." I said to him "I think that's a wonderful energy policy!" he said "What...kick his ass and steal his gas?" I replied "Works for me!"
