I see we have the military on the border crowd chiming in. For those of you that want the military on the border, what exactly do you think the military is going to do? How do you think that the military is going to stop illegal immigration? I keep asking this question and nobody answers. If our government wanted to do something about illegal immigration we would not need the military on the border. If our government does not want to do anything about illegal immigration what good is placing the military on the border going to do?

Military on the border? possibly, maybe the Mexican govt. would be so apt to take "alleged" pot-shots at our border patrol.
I believe an answer to this would be a complete over-haul\stream-lining of our agencies(INS,etc..). Also, change the immigration laws that were inflicted on all of us back in 1965..thank you Ted Kennedy.

"How do you think the military is going to stop illegal immigration? I keep asking this question and nobody answers."

First, we need to construct barriers along both of our land borders where the natural terrain isn't barrier enough.

The southern border should require less than 2,000 miles of barriers and the northern border less than 4,000.

For sake of argument, let's just call it 2,000 and 4,000 miles.

I favor 30-foot-tall-walls. I doubt that 5% of the illegals sauntering leisurely over our land borders now would even attempt to climb over or tunnel under that.

Next, deploy the military using the 5-1, 24-7, watch stander rule.

To do a more than adequate job, we place 5 military guards per mile or 10,000 per shift on the southern border. Divide another 4,000 per shift into teams of 4 or 5 dispersed along the border as roving back-up and pizza deliverers.

That's 14,000 per shift or 42,000 for the 3 shifts. Then add another 28,000 to provide support, resupply and days off.

Double these numbers for the northern border.

I actually believe all of these numbers are more than what's needed and could be trimmed back once the military actually sees how it goes.

The barriers along the southern border could be built for less than $10 billion and the northern barriers for less than $20 billion. Cost of the troops would be less than $15 billion per year.

That's alot less than the illegals, drug smugglers, terrorists, criminal organizations and agents of foreign governments cost us each year, now.

Simultaneously, a plan similar to:

They Will Deport Themselves

is instituted and we beef up the Coast Guard.

That frees up all of the existing border patrol and INS agents to take care of interior enforcement. Not one single soldier has to venture away from the wall, when they're on duty.

Part of the cost of the wall could be offset by advertising dollars.

Once we have all of the illegals out, we can consider turning the patrol of the walls over to the border patrol, if it makes sense.

When that time comes, give the guys already patrolling the border in military uniforms hiring preference for those jobs.

The National Guard will always be there to back up the border patrol, if things get out of hand, again.

I'd much rather spend the billions putting American citizens to work building and maintaining these walls, guarding them in military, border patrol and Coast Guard uniforms.

We're hiring 72,000 American citizens to be security screeners in our airports by November. We can do this, too.

We hold down our taxes, get our schools and emergency medical healthcare system back under control, take control of legal immigration, etc., etc..

Reaganwuzthebest brought us the good news that the liberal interpretation of the 14th Amendment was finally being challenged in the courts.

That will put an end to this 'anchor baby', liberal scam.

What do you think, Ajnin? Marine Inspector?
